"One day I'm gonna rule this pride! Then you'll be sorry!" Her position underneath Aerogorgon's paws betrayed her confidence. She squirmed in an attempt to get out from under him.
"It doesn't work like that, bean brain!" Aerogorgon huffed.
"Huh?" Cypraelle replied.
"Only males can be made king of the pride." Aergorgon leaped off of Cypraelle, pawing his way back to their pride.
"What about queen?" she questioned.
Aerogon laughed haughtily, waving his tail. "There's no such thing as a queen, dimwit." His rabbit bones clattered harshly against his chest. "Only a harem. And I'm going to own it."
Cypraelle squirmed uncomfortably, though she wasn't quite sure why. She brushes it off, trying to keep the conversation. "You do know Demeunster is set to be the next king, right?"
He sniffed, writing a smirk on his face. "Yeah I know. But I'm set in my plan. Now bug off, I've got work to do."
Work? You're nine months old! ...is what she wanted to yell, but he was scampering off before she could say anything. A scowl found itself on her face. I'm older than him and I haven't even been able to go on a single hunt...
----------------
Cypraelle's ears flicked to the sound of broken vegetation deep into the midnight moon. Her eyes parted slightly to see Demogorgen's tail waving away. She got up slowly and started to stalk her king. It can only help. And besides, if I successfully pounce him, then maybe I can finally go on a hunting patrol!" She tried to contain her giddy by rubbing her shoulder's together. The ground beneath her feet was changing, and it took awhile to realise that she was following him far outside the Pride's territory. Where are we going?
The grass suddenly ended and Cypraelle forced herself to stop prowling. She was met with Demogorgen stalking towards his son and heir, Aerogorgen. She cocked her head with irritance, Of course the little furball is out here. They were talking, so Cypraelle craned her neck just slightly to eavesdrop.
"...nd then she attacked me! But of course, I was able to get on top of her, and--"
"Yes, yes that's great, son." Demogorgen's voice was distant.
"Father?" Aerogorgen cocked his neck to the side. "You seem distracted."
Silence. Demogorgen's back was turned to Cypraelle.
"Father?" Aerogorgen's tail dropped. Was that... fear in his eyes?
"Please, forgive me for this."
It happened so fast, it took Cypraelle several seconds to process what even happened. Demogorgen heaved down, and the audible crunch of bones were heard. A strangled mewl cried out, then heavy breathing overlaying harsh gurgles.
Minutes pass by before anyone makes a move. The gurgling stops, and Demogorgen gets up slowly, tossing aside Aerogorgon's bloodied body. He turns to the body for a second before turning down a different path. Cypraelle stays in place for almost an hour before rushing to the carcass, sniffing desperately for any signs of life. His eyes were glazed and his body was stiffening, a pungent smell rising from the body. The blood shone in the moonlight.
"Aero... gorgon," she croaked, holding back a terrified sob.
Why would her king do this?
She eased off his rabbit bones and armor. If he couldn't be alive, he would be alive in her.
