Biography

King of the Mavazi Nyeusi -- also known as the 'The Black Wastes', a long since depleted volcano chasm that has begun to flourish with newfound life within its obsidian clutches.

As his new pride grew, comprised mostly of those who had been abandoned by their former prides, the tale of the Mavazi Nyeusi began to spread among the maneless and other predators who sought the verdant watering hole for themselves. Sunrise just didn't expect one of those predators to be of his own flesh and blood; Eshu.
Eshu, twin to Ibeji, attempted to challenge his father with a small rebellion at his heels. While Eshu put up a difficult fight, Sunrise eventually came out on top. Upon offering a paw to his son in a sign of good faith, Eshu lashed out a final time and blinded the king in his right eye.

Eshu was banished, and Sunrise consulted with both his Farseer and Shamaness as to what would be best for the Pride's future. The Farseer told of a heavily secluded waterfall on the far end of the savanna, shrouded by dense jungle and nestled within the mountain range to the south. There, they would find their proper home, and there Sunrise will come to know his true successor; a cub born not of his blood, but of his spirit.

And so, the Tempest Pride left the safety of The Black Wastes, and headed south towards the fabled Echo Falls, the journey proving a difficult one... but one where they'd grow to rely on each other, and build a closer bond between one another and strengthening the unity of the Pride. Grow they did, as they traversed harsh landscapes and even harsher weather, until the Pride came upon the glistening falls of legend!

Things were good, the pride began to grow and relationships blossomed, including one between Shamaness Sandstorm and a neighboring lion. Despite his concerns, Dusk assured him that she'd remain faithful to the pride, that perhaps even something greater would come of their affair; little did Sunrise know, what it would bring would be the heir to the Tempest Pride, Xevioso. The young cub having been welcomed into this world by both the King and Queen, as well as the Farseer who was all too keen to announce that he, the unassuming cub with a coat of ash and cinder, would be their herald to a bright future in the pride.

After Xevioso was weened off of his mother, he was brought into the care of Sunrise and his consorts, the four of them doting on the young cub as if he were their flesh and blood. While they also cared for their biological children; Nova, Abassi, and Ibeji, Sunrise did prove to be more... distant towards them, pouring most of his time and effort onto the budding Prince.

That mistake would come to haunt him, for as Xevioso grew, so did the distance between him and his children; Nova and Ibeji still caring for their father but Abassi was another story completely. Often bickering with his father over his choice of heir, Sunrise fought ferociously over his choice to trust in the Farseer's vision, even while his own son mocked him, told him that they were no more than vipers who sought to undermine the Pride from the inside. When not arguing, Abassi sought to prove himself tirelessly to his father, leading his own small scale hunting trips, or even venturing out alone and bringing back trophies in the form of carcasses and bones. It only reinforced Sunrise's decision though, but those troublesome thoughts still lingered in the recesses of his mind.

Those thoughts would prove to be a thunderous storm of uncertainty one evening, as the Patriarch emerged from his cavern to find his son, Abassi, lying motionless within the pools that graced the falls. The golden maned lion seeping blood into the once crystalline waters, tainting it with his last moments of anger and hatred. Still, the king openly cried out as he pulled his child from the waters, trying his best to breathe life back into the dormant son; only to fail, just as he had when raising him. It took the brunt of his other son and the Huntmaster to pull him away from his child and to confine him within his cavern, only permitting the Queen to see him in his sorry, grief-stricken state. Even the ever gentle Quiet Storm was unable to begin to pull him from the slog of his misery; the once proud king now a ghost of himself.

It's been a year since Abassi's passing, and while he knows Xevioso was only defending himself... Sunrise has grown cold towards him, resentful, but still adamant to follow through the prophecy to the end; already having lost so much in the wake of the heirs birth to now, he's more determined to see it to its end. However, it's clear as day to anyone who looks to the King now that there's an underlying layer of pain to his words, a heaviness in his heart, and a bitter weight that bogs him down with every step. As he grows older, his grief threatens to swallow him.
