Witchwood's Lore
Before we get into her actual character lore, I would like to share a bit in general about Witchwood! She was the first ever Bushveld Stud on site, kinged as a G2 Slender the same day her Raffle Lioness was drawn, April 16th 2021. She was immediately flooded with requests, and sold out of her first 15 stud slots within as many minutes. Her original price for traditional breedings was only 1GB, in order to help spread the base as much as possible. However, all of this traditional breeding was for naught, as it took her over three hundred cubs to pass her base for the first time. Prior to passing her base, she had a Maziwa cub, a Mobola Cub, and countless Slender Piebalds. This is what earned her the commonly seen nickname of 'Bitchwood'. Now, Witchwood is the only surviving clone of her RL, as the RL's owner quit and the RL is frozen on an inaccessible account, though I'm working to breed a new clone.
Witchwood would not have been possible without many of my close friends supporting me, and I am so honored by the fact that she's so beloved by so many players on Lioden nowadays. These friends are involved not just in bringing her to the site, but are also involved in her lore, so I would really appreciate it if any of you reading could go give them a visit when you see a linked name in her character lore below. Witchwood is born as the only child of a wandering lioness, Edrisa. Edrisa, a boneseer, seems to have imparted some of her own spiritual abilities onto her cub, seemingly giving Witchwood the power over life and death. As Edrisa can't risk having her cub exposed (or being caught for her own countless crimes), Witchwood spends most of her early life in complete and utter isolation, with only her mother's mad ranting for support. When her mane begins growing in, her mother forcibly cuts it, as, after all, a maned lioness is very identifying, which is the opposite of what they need to be.
Eventually, the isolation comes to a head. Witchwood and her mother get into a fight, and in the fight, Witchwood very nearly kills her mother before terrifying herself. She flees in fear, leaving her mother gasping in the dust.
Months later, the shamans find a rail-thin (and honestly, rather rude) adolescent using... magic to hunt prey. Scared for the girl's safety, Sangoma Tefnut attempts to take her in as her apprentice, only for the girl to nearly turn that power onto her. Fortunately for the great Sangoma Tefnut, her fellow shaman Sorcerer Sphinx was there. Sorcerer Sphinx ends up taking in Witchwood as his apprentice, as Ahihia has since grown and is now a shaman in her own right. Under Sorcerer Sphinx is where Witchwood learns her non-magical healing, and also learns the value of keeping herself hidden. She earns her beads, despite her attitude problem, and then leaves his apprenticeship to live in a nearby swamp,
Unfortunately, being a filthy swamp witch is actually... not all that great if you want to stay hidden. There's only so many swamp witches out there, and most of them at least bathe occasionally. Meanwhile, Witchwood doesn't see the point in it, after all, she does live in a swamp. The moment she's clean, she'll just get dirty all over again. Plus, her mane is easy storage for important herbs and plants used in her non-magical healing. And being rude also keeps patients from overstaying their welcome.
Eventually, she meets Dichali, a charismatic herb seller who seems to have a little bit of a thing for her. At first, she just found him absolutely annoying, but was capable of admitting the discounts he gave her for "being a cutie-patootie" were helpful, whatever the fuck 'cutie-patootie' meant. And after heradopted son ward and apprentice, Whittaker (no lion yet), comes into her life, she learns Dichali is actually rather good with kids. And now that she thinks about it... he's actually a bit handsome, despite the short stubby mane and his playboy attitude. And the more time she spends with him, the more her life seems to improve. Not only does Whittaker have a second caretaker, which is imperative for a cub's development, she finally meets her father, and along with him, her little brother Brambleroot.
...Maybe she's learning some big life lesson about the value of kindness. Maybe she's finally- oh, she just bit one of her patients. Welp.
