According to the Wiki,
"Rosettes seem to be the most popular marking on Lioden currently, due to the mysterious nature of how they're passed on, and the fact that they can randomly pop up in any breeding. There are tons of user theories and conspiracies floating around regarding how Rosette works, but nobody truly knows—the code has yet to be cracked."

This could be taken to imply that they are truly random ("the fact that they can randomly pop up in any breeding"), but it can also imply that there is, in fact, a code ("the code has yet to be cracked").

Do you see a pattern?
I do.
Every. Single. Father. Has. At. Least. One. Feline. Marking.
See it?
Maybe parents with Feline markings produce rosettes, but it's rare.

Huh!
This is pretty interesting.
I myself have a Cream Rosette, and her father has a Feline marking.
https://www.lioden.com/lion.php?id=794110631382 here she is
Though, I'm not sure if this applies to every rosette lion/lioness out there. But it's a cool theory!

Makes some sense. I have 2 (Brown and an onyx) Rosettes on my side that came from this king and a double feline lady https://www.lioden.com/lion.php?id=794109608307 and https://www.lioden.com/lion.php?id=794110673733 The only other rosette I have that did not have a feline nor rosy dad has an unknown mother

While I've never bred a rosette from scratch, so I don't have any info to add to your theory in that way, I can throw some potential references for how feline affects it's passing from another rosette.
This girl with F2O has given me a triple and a double just in this past litter, as well as other rosettes in the past.(She has outlived them at this point)
This girl has given me a quad(my king) and while she does not have feline, the cubs father did
This double has no feline parent.
This GR has no feline parent
This double was born from a triple Feline

However, everything aside, Felines are extremely popular markings, so it makes sense that they'd be present.

Another note- I, among other rosette breeders, have noticed that rosettes seem to pass together far more often than not(in the case that multiple rosettes are involved) I've only ever bred two single rosettes, ever (that I can remember anyway), however in just this past couple of months I've bred 6 doubles-quad rosettes, three of which were within a couple days of eachother.

My king just had a rosette pop up in one of his litters, he has several feline markings.

Here she is, no history of rosette before hand.

Perhaps she was chased and had one? But then the theory must be wrong or your girl broke the system

my king has feline 7 white and he's produced 2 cubs with rosettes

i checked the lineage and neither of the mothers had rosette so i went
deeper, back to the grandparents and great grandparents from either side,
NONE of the lions in either cubs lineage had the rosette marking, i'm stumped

@Diomeda No, I know she had no feline markings; I remember that much. She had some markings, but I forgot what they were. She also had some sort of under marking I'm fairly certain and that's been suggested to have contributed to spawning rosettes.

The base colors seem to have some affect, as well. The cream rosette came out of a cream mother, the gold rosette came out of a yellow-ish color, and the brown rosette came out of a vaguely-brown color, right? I've not gotten any yet, but that is interesting. I'll be keeping an eye out for feline studs, now o.0

That works in my case because I got an inverted rosette silky from an isabel based mother.
