I've been having a lot of ideas but none has outgrown it, basically a mutation that makes the lion look like a hyena.

but do not worry, your lioness did not go for a walk with a hyena, in fact HYENIS is a spine problem that still happens with the cub in the womb of the lioness.
When the cub is born, the first impression is that there is a hyena.

HYENIS

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

~I also thought of some texts for that...

-your lioness gives birth, all cubs are health, but have a different .. looks like a hyena .. WAIT ... HYENA ???-
-[cub] walks up to you and start a conversation, but realizing you're looking at him strangely he walks away quickly and back to his mother.-

-you looks the members of your pride, and see [cub] is away from everyone, you go and tell him to join others along with a message of motivation, he rises happily and goes to the others.-

-you watch [cub] play with your brothers, until one hour he trips and falls. and you burst into laughter.-

-------------------------------------------------

Mad Hyena (#29080) > changing the name is something that really needs to be done, I will remove the ears and eyes, as some people have been talking about. telvez this make the mutation more realistic as some want.

the names you suggested are well elaborated, I liked it.

maybe I'll choose Sloped Back.

A name change for this is probably better and more likely imo. While the game does have unrealistic elements it would never do something like a lion-hyena hybrid, and a mutation called Hyenis is a bit too on-the-nose...

Also please don't hate me but I was thinking something else entirely when I saw the word Hyenis, LOL.

To counter CCC-
This could very much be realistic. I am NOT linking it, but this reminds me of Treacher-Collins/Nager Syndrome. Both disorders cause smaller ears, AS WELL AS bone deformities. That's an ear/face/spine combo right there. Realistic, happens in the wild(with humans), and craniofacial + spinal deformities exist in cats.

So, supported! I would prefer if this couldn't hunt, but am on the fence about it being fatal? Maybe dies randomly between x years and x months.

EDIT: Wow I didn't see I was only replying to page 1 LOL. Sloped back would be cool, but I do enjoy the facial/ear deformities as well?

No support, lions, and hyenas aren't from the same species family and im 100% positive that they can't breed to create a hybrid considering they are pretty much natural enemies and even if they somehow 'bred', it wouldn't be possible at all from what I know from my basic knowledge of hybrid breeding.

Takoyaki- this isn't a literal hybridization. Read it again.

If it's like that wouldn't it be simpler to just call it an 'arched spine' mutation or something like that rather than hyenis which is pretty much implying that the lion has a hyena mutation? I'm not saying I wouldn't support an arched spine mutation since I would support it but a lion and a hyena's anatomy and looks are very much different, a spine mutation wouldn't make a lion look like a hyena at all.

Ok, pulling out biology here. Hyenas are feliforms. They inherently look similar in a number of ways: their teeth structure, skull structure, etc. Aside from that...

So...yeah. They're both feliforms. They can't HYBRIDIZE, but their inherent structure is similar, though hyenas and lions developed to suit their specific needs in their environments, and that inherently leads to the sloped nature of the hyenas' body: they don't have a large tail to balance with, as lions do.

No Support for now. The basic premise of "like a hyena, but not a hybrid" isn't exactly appealing, given that it's leaning so heavily on the hyena-like appearance. I see what you're going for with the spinal deformity, but as it stands right now it doesn't seem plausible as an actual mutation. Maybe something along the lines of the Short Spine Syndrome that you see in dogs might work better?

If you look at the bone structures, they're actually pretty different.

Also, if you're talking about spine problems that make it have 'spine problems' it would look more like this but in lion form:
maxresdefault.jpg
It really doesn't look like a hyena at all, does it?

And if you're talking about the spinal problems german shepherds have, It honestly wouldn't be possible considering german shepherds had to go through decades of selective breeding to get that spinal problem.

(Please excuse the overly big pictures, I just want to show you guys this.)

Buddy, I just showed you a hyena and a lion bone structure. I'm studying biology, the similarities between feliforms is literally a discussion point in my anatomy classes.

Short Spine hasn't been demonstrated in cats, that's my biggest complaint and why I don't support it. And, you know...there's more than 1 thing...that can be wrong with a spine?

Congrats that you're studying biology I guess..?
The only reason why hyenas have a back like that is that their hind leg is shorter than their front legs, it has nothing to do with their backs im pretty sure ^^;;
But I'm not sure how to convince you that this 'spine problem' well never make a lion look like a hyena since you seem pretty set to stone in this, I'm just saying that this will probably get rejected by the mods

Then make it a leg problem. No need to be sarcastic about their biology studies

Don't you just hate it when you put your German Shepherd into a show pose and its legs magically get shorter? /s

INB4 "this is a topic about lions": You already used a GSD as an example here. It's fair game.

damn okay whatever you wanna say bud
But as I said again, a back problem will never make a lion look like a hyena at all, I'd be way more convinced if you put the hyena markings on a lion and said it's a hyena.
