I just returned kinda from a long break, when i was told to retire my king i no longer see "keep my current kings appearance" as an option... do i have to select a male first or? I'm scared to select one before asking.
If i select one with no mutation but click keep my current kings appearance, will my kings piebald be on the new king? I dont remember how this works and im afraid to mess up as ive spent so much time and effort on my king.

The mutation stats and heritage of the new boy are kept if you choose to keep the current appearance. If you choose to go with a new boy they will keep all of the above and that subs looks. There should be an option for keeping your current kings looks like a scroll box or something.

You need to choose an heir to keep old king's looks, yes.
But his piebald will go away in any case! New king will have the mutation status of the Heir - if heir has no mutation, new king will have no mutation, regardless of whose looks you choose to keep. In order to have a mutated king again, you would need to pick a mutated heir!
