October likely couldn't maintain her duties now even if she weren't retired, and she's not all there anymore. It's best that she doesn't have anything to do, and her sister can take care of her.
Personality
October is a soft-hearted lioness, always gentle and easily pushed around. She has a vague sadness to her, and she's not entirely sane anymore. She was once very much in love with her king, and she still longs for him. To her, love should be true and forever, and she hasn't entirely lost faith in this. She's learned harsh lessons, and now she only wallows in self-pity and desperation. She was once a hopeful lioness, but now she only clings to the last shreds. Despite all of this, she does always what she thinks is right, and cares greatly for others, willing to help. She supports others in anything they want to do. She’s also incredibly artistic and likes to think in abstract terms.
Background
October had a wonderful mother and two sweet older sisters, and she was very happy with her pride and her life. She grew up best friends with her half-sister, Rothesay Reveller. Revel was a tough lioness, and October was never quite like her. So Revel looked after her, and in turn October made sure that Revel maintained her mental health. They were polar opposites, but best friends. October was the kind of lioness who dreamed of love, and she found that love the first moment she set eyes on Monarch. She made up her mind much too quickly to join his pride, and Revel, suspecting that things might not turn out well, came with her. At first it seemed fine. Sure, Monarch was distant, but October was so happy with the little time he spent with her. She pretended not to notice when he came by less and less frequently, and when he looked past her like she wasn’t there. She thought of a million excuses. October can see how things have changed. But even when Monarch ran off, she had faith that he would come back, and he did. She thought this was a sign that they were meant to be. She tried for a long time to capture his attention, until one day Revel finally snapped and told her Monarch didn't love her. Offended and hurt, October refused to speak to Revel. Soon after, Monarch came to her. Happy that he had finally come around, she spent the night with him. When she told him she loved him, though, he gave no reply. She asked if he loved her, and he still didn't reply. Upset and desperate, she asked him one more time. He told her he had to leave. She was heartbroken, and went back to Revel to tell her she'd been right. After that, October all but gave up. She kept going with her duties, but her mind started to go. Eventually Revel decided to retire along with her.
  
How do you feel about Monarch?
"I thought . . . I thought true love was always. I thought it was meant to be. I thought he would say he loved me one day. He doesn't. I only want him to. That's all I want in life."
Who is your favorite lion?
"Oh, that's never even been a question for me. From that moment I lay eyes on Monarch, I've loved him. I wish I didn't still, but I can't help it."
Who is your least favorite lion?
"I'd have to say it's Black Adder. I know, I know. She's so young. She's just a little thing, and that's why she is how she is. But she should show her father more respect. I know I would if it were me. But she'll grow out of it, I'm certain." |
