Mitsuki was born in a cosy, lovingly assembled nest. His mother was one of the most beautiful lionesses in her pride; her coat was a mixture of off-white and vintage pink, with a swirl on either side like cream melting into hot cocoa. He was the only cub in his litter, and so she doted upon him day and night. She felt awful that he had no siblings to play with, so she tamed a young kitten and blessed them both with a promise of lifelong loyalty and friendship.
He was six months old before he met the king of the pride, his father, Delta. Most kings would be delighted with Mitsuki: he was the perfect heir, both strong and kind. His coat was a valuable shade of pinkish-red, and his mane (just barely sprout) was a profitable icy blue. However, it was not to be. Delta adored being king, and it terrified him that he may one day be overtaken. The tiny and defenceless Mitsuki was a threat, and was carried far away in the clenched jowls of the very lion that should have loved him most. He was left for hyenas and wild dogs by a watering hole.
Delta had not factored in the kitten bound to his son for life, however. The tiny being was determined to carry out her role and protect her master. She carried leaves and twigs and covered little Mitsuki, so that he was hidden from predators- she then carried him scraps of meat and drops of water, and lay atop of him purring and giving him life-saving warmth every painfully cold night until he was strong enough to begin seeking a land to rule.
Mitsuki had very little trouble finding spare land and willing lionesses. He was beautiful and powerful, and within a few months he had taken charge of twelve girls and sixteen miles of territory. He was protective and loving towards his pride, but after the betrayal he faced while still so young he is cruel and unforgiving towards outsiders.
