The great drought may be over, but this maneater is still hungry.
Even the most confident of lions held their breath when they saw her. Veritae was no more than an adolescent, but she was impossible to ignore. Vicious, obstinate, unforgiving. The older the young lioness got, the more clear it was that she was unlike any other lion her pride had ever seen before. She had a seemingly innate distaste for authority. Her idea of entertainment was skirmishes and violent games. Her physical prowess rivaled any male lion, and she was not only aware of that fact, but seemed quite dedicated to maintaining it. A strong, everlasting hatred of men was a defining characteristic of Veritae. When asked where her repulsion came from, she could give no more of an answer than "what's there to like."
Her attitude caused her pride mates to view her as a threat to the stability of the pride. Even their king feared that her raw strength alone could lead to the toppling of their long-established hierarchy. Chased out before she was fully mature, Veritae had to quickly learn how to survive in unforgiving lands. Her opportunistic nature led her to discover an extremely easy food source: humans. Feasting from villages, Veritae saw her actions as no different from hunting any other prey. She was naturally a talented huntress, of course. She had no need to engage in such a taboo. For her, it was purely pleasure. It was more of a game with the humans. The fear in their eyes. This whispers that she couldn't distinguish but knew what they meant nonetheless. When a village got smart, brought out guns, she could easily move on to the next one.
Veritae did quickly learn that her actions had consequences. On the off chance she met another lion, she was only met with disgusted glances. Rumors had spread of a vicious female maneater, one to be avoided at all costs. Most lions simply growl at her with disapproval, as if they believe it will make her feel any kind of guilt. Particularly cocky lions try to best her in combat, only to leave with deep wounds and bruised ego.
And yet, despite her demeanor, despite her reputation, this maneater does not walk through life alone. Veritae’s well-muscled body, apathetic charm, bloody-rugged look, and general tendency for violence have made her quite popular amongst a certain subset of lionesses. Apparently, some girls are into that. Veritae is happy to entertain any lioness brave enough to seek her out, providing a free meal and a night of story telling. Some lionesses have found the arrangement favorable enough to stay indefinitely, although Veritae will assert it is not a pride. A pride is too traditionalist, of course. Too rigid and structural. Whatever she has going on, it’s best not to mess with any of her girls, lest you want to end up another set of bones for her collection

➸ Veritae’s name comes from a combination of “Veritas” - the Roman goddess of truth - and “Vérité” - a style of documentary filmmaking. She was originally going to be named "Illmare" after the moon, but I thought that the "Ill" was hard to read, so I turned to Veritae which has a similar sound
➸ To this day, Veritae has nearly been killed a grand total of three times. The first time, I just got really sick of her, but there weren't any better cream lions on TC to replace her with. The second time, I attempted to buy a RL and was going to replace her with the first clone. I didn't get the RL. The third time, Pecora dropped and I was going to start a Pecora project. She gave me the QuailDunt version of herself immediately before the RL draw. Check back later to watch this tally go up
➸ A running gag between me and people who know Veritae is that her name can be replaced with any word that starts with the letter V. If you have ever seen me called her Vacuum, that's why
