Overview: The Cascade Pride is named for the river where they make their home. The lions of this pride are skilled swimmers, confident and comfortable in the water. There are three den sites, which are described in more detail in the “About the Territory” section. The current King is Dionysus, and the current Queen is Aroura. Lore: (newest additions at the bottom) The Cascade Pride was formed by a lion named Osprey. He was a kind ruler, and formed the pride after fleeing from his old pride. His true name was “Vuil”, but he changed it to distance himself from his former pride. His death was sudden, but not unexpected. He had supposedly contracted some kind of disease from the animals he was trying to help. The second King was Alwyn. He took over after Osprey’s death. He was stricter and far more stern than Osprey, however he was still kind and respected. He introduced the different den and ranking systems, including the introductory hazing. Although he was not the initial choice for the next King, most of the pride respected him and his decisions. However, some of the pride-members disliked his tendency to make decisions entirely on his own. During his reign, the first Queen passed away and her successor, Borealis, took her place. Borealis also hand-picked the next heir, and began teaching him personally. Much like Osprey, Alwyn died suddenly, however his death was far more suspicious. His water-logged body was found downstream in the Floodplains, and first brought to the attention of the pride by the subordinate male and heir to the throne, Silenus. The third King of the Cascade Pride is Silenus. Borealis had been carefully filling him with her own ideals, and made sure he became King. He quickly took over after Alwyn’s sudden and suspicious death. Wild lionesses are invited to the pride, only to be found dead the next day. Unwanted cubs and lionesses are swiftly “removed”, rather than being sent away. His leadership has caused a rift within the pride - those who shared the previous King’s ideals, and those who have no problem with how Silenus rules over the pride with an iron fist. However, it is safe to say he is not going anywhere any time soon. Eventually, the Queen died suddenly. It was a shock to the pride, as she had not shown many signs of old age and most of the pride assumed she had a few years left in her. In her place, the princess Aroura rose to the throne. Aroura is much more laid back than the previous Queen, preferring to to spend time goofing off how she wants. The Queen's death devastated Silenus the most, as he was suddenly without the guidance of his mentor, having to continue her legacy without her. The 4th King Dionysus, also known as Dion to those close to him, has brought a very refreshing perspective to a pride that was previously ruled by fear. The eccentric, androgynous and flirty King encourages the members of the pride to indulge in fun and pleasure. He also asks them to express any concerns they have, so a solution can be found together. He judges others not on how they can benefit him, but on how they treat those around them. Dion loves to have a fun time and there has been a significant increase in partying since he took the throne. Nobody is quite sure where Dionysus came from - he arrived when they needed him the most. Dion is a hedonist at heart, and he wanted to give everyone the opportunity to indulge in this too. "Why spend your life causing pain, when you could be causing pleasure?" is his personal motto. Dionysus is extremely popular with the other pride members. When Silenus finally died, old and lonely, the pride felt a collective joy they hadn't felt since before his reign. Once the burial had been taken care of, it seemed only fitting that they hold a ceremony to celebrate a lion so fond of rituals and parties ascending to the throne. The celebration lasted for days, during which Dionysus was adorned with a necklace of flowers and draped in jewellery and wraps to match his ethereal aura. A brand new era has begun for the pride, one filled with festivities, joy, pleasure and parties. | hover to open me! FloodplainsThe home for those in training, new lions, and those undergoing trial. Situated on the floodplains of the river, including the dangerous rapids. This area is most affected by flooding, so it is not used for the main pride. If you manage to cope here, you are deemed strong enough to enter the main pride. Due to these harsh coming-of-age and acceptance trials, the lions of the Cascade pride are skilled swimmers. There is no head lioness here. The lionesses who oversee the training have authority here. RiverbankThe main pride resides here. Lions and lionesses who have gained their place in the pride, and young ones who have finished their training. Situated just after the waterfall but before the rapids, this area is less affected by natural forces than the Floodplains, but more affected than the Royal Overlook. The head lioness here is Floe. Royal OverlookThe pride royalty. The most prestigious and important lions reside here. It is difficult to get into this luxurious cave without being declared royalty at birth, but some exceptions have been made for certain lions and lionesses. Situated on a high ridge, upstream from the waterfall and overlooking the other two locations, this cave has easy access to water but is generally unaffected by flooding. The head lioness here is the Queen, Aroura. |
