Pectus Carinatum (not to be confused with the similar Pectus Excavatum, a similar condition in which the chest is concave and not convex) is a deformity that can be diagnosed by a potrusion of the chest caused by defected ribs that were developed outwardly. While the mutation itself is seldom lethal, (in humans, and domesticated animals with available treatment) the symptoms associated with it often cause more serious health complications. The lungs and heart commonly form in their natural way but due to the outward shape of the chest, some organs fail to function properly and can lead to other illnesses such as asthma. In severe cases, muscle function is hindered causing shortness of breath and failure to respire at all without the help of a brace or correctional surgery. Other than causing breathing abnormalities, Pectus Carinatum can cause abnormal behaviors in the heart due to. connective tissues not developing in the correct way and obstructing the heart valves and blood vessels from behaving normally. This mutation can occur in both humans and animals, most commonly documented in cats and dogs, but can occur in other species. Thus far I have found no documented cases of lions with this mutation-- but I think it would be a nice mutation anyways. Cubs would appear with a convex chest, pushing outward and perhaps a deformed spine (scoliosis), which is also a common symptom associated with the disease. Cubs would live 1-3 months with the flavor text subject surrounding the cub's inability to breathe and function as well as the others, ultimately dying due to respiratory complications or malnutrition Please let me know what you think! |

I mean, we can just say it would work since it can develop in kittens but an honestly great idea! A little sad but, interesting 0 players like this post! Like? |

I support! I know nothing about this condition but considering your description I think the cub should last just a bit longer than 3 months :) This would be a great addition to lethal mutations and I can absolutely see it being in the game 0 players like this post! Like? |

I like this idea. Maybe we could have two versions of it? Pectus Carinatum doesn't always appear at birth (or at least noticeably anyway), and may only outwardly present as the child's or animal's rib cage grows. I think it would be pretty interesting to have a mutation that can present at birth and prove to be lethal, but also present as an adolescent mutation that limits physical stats as they age up (specifically not affecting smarts), but still be survivable. If there is an adult version, the lion likely wouldn't be able to hunt, patrol, or become king due to issues with their vital organs, pain, and physical limitations. I'm actually a bit excited about this one due to being affected by a non-severe case of the condition myself (only on the right side of my rib cage interestingly), but I will feel pretty sorry for the poor babies. It can be rather painful when exercising, laying face-down on any non-soft surface, laying for too long on my right, if objects rest on it, or sometimes just spontaneously. 0 players like this post!
