This is my first time doing the October event, and I'm curious as to whether it is better to pick a side (in my case I'd like to go with Heaven) or to stay neutral. What has been the best thing to do in your experience?

The major items are these:

Heaven: Angelic Blessing
Hell: Shadow of Death
Neutral: Crunchy Worm

Of the three, the two most expensive items are Shadow of Deaths + Crunchy Worms in later months. So, If you'd like to profit I'd go with hell or neutral.

However, it's completely up to you on how you play, and if it's your playstyle- then all means go the path that you'd like to. It's just a game after all :)

Like primitive said, Crunchy Worms + Shadow of Death are the items that have the most value, and so I use one account for the Hell shop and one account for the Manticore shop!

Though, if you're doing it for your own enjoyment, go with the shop you like best!

Well, it really depends on what you're looking to get out of the event.

I pick a side, because it's easier to get Shard of Evil once you have, and the crafted items from that can be resold easily enough (Plus, I do love the Incubus mane!). You still get BB from rabid animal battles, and some from the heaven/hell encounters, so it's not much of a loss to pick a side in that regard (as long as you have the amusement items). You can easily save up your BB and buy your way back to neutral towards the end of the event if you want the items from there (I can get 100 BB in a day or two, so I don't see it as that expensive if you only do it once, like on the last day possible). That way, you can get items from the heaven/hell shop that you choose as well as the manticore. The few BB you get by the manticore quests (93 - 155 total if you do them every day) are easily outweighed by the perks you can unlock with reputation in the other shops (energy boost item, 20 monkey teeth, 50 BB) , so it's mostly the cost of Oblivion to return to the manticore afterwards. Stick with neutral if you're looking for the impression and experience boost the manticore quests give. But if you don't pick a side, you'll be slowly accumulating event currency you can't use - neutral can collect both NF and DS but can't use either. If you have 2 accounts, you can pick one side on each, and exchange the proper currency until the end.

Last year was my first year on lioden for the event (I joined that past July). I only had 1 account and picked Heaven despite having an Deathlord king. I often switched out the Karma quests from the Heaven shop if i got them, and went back tot he Manticore near the end. I managed to get 5 Angelic Blessing, one of every app in either shop, and 10 Crunchy Worm by the end of October. Mind you, I was able to do a fairly decent amount of exploring (That king was on the leaderboard at one point!) but I still think it's a viable strategy, and you get to enjoy all kinds of art with the encounters from the shop. :)

Hold on a second, you get more Blood Beetles if you stick with Nirah?

Check the wiki for the quest rewards. I believe manticore quests give 3 - 5 BB per day completed, plus some impression and experience. But look for yourself to be sure, I could be remembering wrong.

According to the Wiki, doing the NPC quests for Hell or Heaven will net you reputation, not Blood Beetles. The only time you'll get Blood Beetles from them is after 100 Reputation; they'll give you 50 Blood Beetles.

So staying with Nirah for as long as you can before you absolutely have to switch will probably be the best course of action if you want to maximize your Blood Beetles gainage, like me.

If you're aligned then you get encounters with angelic or demonic creatures, which give you 2 blood beetles each if defeated - if you're not aligned, then your only event encounters are with rabid animals and the night creatures, many of which yield more than 2 blood beetles when fought.

It all depends on your goal. Once you get far enough in the even to unlock demonic whip or angelic wings, you can also bind/bless non-event enemies for a chance at karma, 50exp, 1 reputation with your shop, or 1 event currency with your shop. There is also 1 more encounter that gives Shard of Evil on each side once aligned. If BB is your only goal, remaining neutral is probably best. If you're looking to get items from any shop, aligning early allows you to maximize your rewards and cherry-picking the battles you engage in can keep up your BB count as well. My main goal was Seduction, so that's why I picked a side early. It's all a trade-off on what you're focused on.

When and if this event happens again next year, do you think we'll be able to pick a different side, or will it remember what we picked this time around?
