A time where vampire myths are commonly believed, and suspicion of the undead is high.
You reside in the town of Rivercrest, which seems like just another town, but when night falls it becomes far more sinister.

You are a vampire, and now it's time you have to choose whether you'll be swayed by your immortal bloodlust and feast to your undead heart's content, either manipulating your way to the top, using your wits to avoid being caught, isolating from the mortals and only interacting when it's time to feed, or simply slaughtering all those who oppose you. Or, you could try your best to shun who you are, and feed as little as possible, or only on consenting humans. But without feeding, you'll soon begin to find your immortality dwindling.
But, it's not just human hunters you have to worry about, werewolves will stop at nothing to rip you to shreds, if you're not careful, the toxic rays of dawn could soon turn you to mere ashes.

Notes on Vampirism.
A vampire in this roleplay is practically undead, they have no heartbeat, no breathing, and are cold to the touch apart from after feeding on human blood. The longer a vampire goes without feeding, the more they begin to look like a corpse, and the colder they become. If they go too long without feeding, a vampire will enter a 'bloodstarved' rage, and attack anything living on sight. Animal blood can be drank, but it does not reverse the effects of starvation or the inevitable blood rage, merely holds back the cravings for a day or so. A fed vampire may look like your average human, however when intense emotions are shown, or when feeding, their irises will turn crimson and their pupils constrict into catlike slits, and of course their fangs will be visible.

All vampires are immortal in the aspect that they cannot die from illness or aging, however they can still be killed by sunlight, decapitation, total destruction of the head, removal of the heart, or destruction of the heart. Any other injuries will regenerate depending on how recently they fed, a starved vampire will struggle to heal even the smallest injuries, but a fully gorged vampire could regenerate entire limbs in an hour or so.

The abilities a vampire innately has is, enhanced reflexes, speed, strength, enhanced senses, and night vision.

To turn a human into a vampire, they need to be completely exsanguinated and then made to drink a vampire's blood, it's not a process without risks however, as it can fail and either the human will stay dead, or they will become a mindless ghoul that has to be put down.

Notes on Lycanthropy.
Werewolves can vary drastically, but your average werewolf in their 'beast' form is around 7 foot tall, and can come in many different colours, but grey is the most common. In their human form, a werewolf will be harder to identify than a vampire, however a few traits such as more 'wolf-like' mannerisms, more muscle mass than your average human, and for those with more than human senses, the smell of dog, can be identify a Lycanthrope.

Drumming rhythmically in the darkness was the sound of hoof beats, riding fast through the woodland paths, the acrid smell of the horse's breath stung at the senses as it huffed and snorted at the exertion. As the forest finally broke, it gave way to rolling hills of golden farmland, fields upon fields of wheat, rye, oats, and with the occasional sheep or goat flock. 'Why he would choose to stay here, I will never know.' Estrid thought to herself with distaste at the stench of manure and farmland. The road finally began to grow more stable, a pleasant cobbled road much more suited than the muddy dirt tracks of before.

The town was in sight, rather quaint with the stony cottages all dotted around a center well, an Inn, a Tavern, a Baker, Butcher, all the usual amenities you'd expect in a village, and lastly a church, that had obviously seen better days, as ivy and other trailing plants were all growing up through the rocky walls. As she finally made it to the center of the town, Estrid climbed down from off her horse, tying it's halter to a tethering post. She looked at the sight around her, 'Prey should be easy enough to come by.' She mentally noted. The streets were empty as it was far past the time most mortals were foolish enough to wander, all those still awake were either tucked up in their homes or in the tavern.

Feeling that maddening pain in her chest, the gnawing hunger set in as she smelled the scent of humans, she made her way over to the tavern with the intention of finding some poor fool to lure out and kill. Walking over to the candlelit tavern, she opened the door and was momentarily blinded by the sudden burst of candlelight, but her eyes adjusted soon enough. It wasn't particularly full, just a few humans lazily drinking away the night, as was expected.

Ambrose sat lazily in the main room of the tavern. His own home grew very boring at night, and he'd decided to take refuge here, rather than aimlessly wander his halls as he so often did. He sat at a table in the corner, with a book in one hand that he wasn't really looking at anymore.

Instead, he scanned the room, recognizing most of the people inside. He looked up curiously as the door swung open. The woman who entered was not someone he knew, and he watched her as she came in. She seemed to be a little older than him. He drew his book closer to him, but followed her with his eyes over the pages, interested in who she might be.

Estrid peered towards the dark haired man staring at her, the bookish type, interesting. She then began to walk over, her footsteps making barely any sound, almost like how a masterful hunter's footsteps would be quiet and soft, something about this stranger just seemed off. Then as the fiery haired woman strained to block out the background noise, she heard no heartbeat coming from the dark, bookish man infront of her.

The woman's voice was strong and confident, yet still feminine and cold. Her tone was rather formal and curt, but it seemed to hold an eerie and uncomfortable undertone, which made your chest tighten slightly. "May I take a seat?" She asked, her intense eyes almost giving off a strong predatory feeling.

She sat down on the opposite seat, eyeing you down with a scrutinising glare. "Would be quite a nice night for a hunt, would it not?" She said with a sardonic grin, her eyes gave away no sense of her meaning behind the comment. You could notice how languid her movements were, almost too cat-like for any human.

Ambrose twitched in his seat a bit as the woman approached. It was rare for people to come up to him, especially at this hour, and she hoped she didn't want to start trouble.

He was caught off-guard by her sitting down. He closed his book, as if he'd been reading it. Her question startled him and it took him a few moments to reply.

"I suppose," he said after an awkward silence. "If you have to." Ambrose wasn't the type to hunt for fun or out of boredom. This was his town, and he knew the people in it, so he only went after them when it was necessary - even then, he tried not to kill.

"Where are you from?" he asked. It was odd to see a new vampire show up. Maybe she knew the innkeeper, Walter?

(i was thinking walter & ambrose could know eachother, since theyre both vampires and ambrose is there at night pretty often)

(That works! ^^)

Estrid's face hardened again, losing any traces of former humour. "I travel a lot." She shrugged, giving a challenging glare to the fledgling before her. "And what is your purpose here?" She said curtly, as her eyes flashed red for a second, but she still kept that same monotone and cold tone, but this time it was quieter and sharper."I thought I would've been informed of a new.. Hunter, in my lands."

"Shall we go somewhere we can talk more freely? No need for games or ambiguity." Her gaze had now become simply bored, seemingly satisfied with some answer, and held little to no interest anymore.

(great!)

He met her steely gaze, unblinking and trying not to shrink from her threatening appearance. He'd only lived in Rivercrest for a year or so and didn't know if she was someone to be respected or feared. Luckily, the conversation shifted, and the stiffness in his shoulders dissipated.

"That sounds alright," he said. He knew the innkeeper and felt safe enough inside his building. Plus, he didn't want to risk saying no, in case she was dangerous.

Estrid gave a sharp nod, seeing that he didn't back down from her intense gaze earnt a wry smile, but she spoke nothing of it. She then stood up from the chair, looking back down at you. "Meet me in the Inn, we can talk freely there." And with that statement, she simply began to walk out into the darkened cobble streets, not even bothering to look if you were following.

Ambrose watched her stand and leave. He took a deep breath to steady himself, then grabbed his book and rose to follow her. Stepping out of the bar, he caught up to her quickly, walking a bit behind her and glancing around the street as they went.

As she walked into the inn, it was empty of any mortals, and Walter wasn't in his usual spot behind the desk. Yet the hearth still burnt with pleasant warmth that soothed the undead's cold and weary bones. All pleasance was quickly snuffed as Estrid turned around to face you, her eyes sharp and glaring

"So, you really have no idea who I am?" She said coolly, eyeing you up and down. "Let me guess, some random mewling mortal fell victim to a mindless turning, still wet behind the fangs, not even seen their first century yet. Am I correct?" She paused, seeing her words take a hold.

"You see, I am one of the oldest vampires that still walk the earth nowadays. Vampires have no true kingdom, nor monarchy, but however. Age and influence oft go hand in hand." Her tone was that same cold and emotionless purr as always.

"Rogue vampires turned by some wayward beast are a nuisance often best put down on sight. So be thankful I am giving you this warning instead of destroying you without a chance, fledgling."

Ambrose was feeling casual by the time they reached the inn, so her sudden intense questioning made him freeze in place. He balled his fists and stood startled while she talked.

He gulped, but felt the need to defend himself. He wasn't just some mindless whelp. "I'm young," he confessed, "But I'm not an idiot. If you want me out of this town so badly, then make me leave, because I already know this innkeeper and he'd advocate for my staying. I've spent my time helping people instead of treating them like food, which is more than I can say for some vampires."

He hoped the words carried more strength than he felt. In truth, he and Walter weren't any more than friends, and he had no idea if the man would actually want him around - especially if a high-ranking vampire was trying to kick him out.

Estrid stood there, weighing his words before giving a small genuine smile that was smothered before it fully formed. "If I wanted you to leave, you'd be a pile of ash on the ground by now, fledgling. And, yes. Walter would most definitely advocate for you." She said without giving any further explanation.

A figure came from down the stairs, a distant and almost guilty look in his deep blue eyes, but that was quickly suppressed when he saw you and Estrid. "Estrid, what brings you here?" He said cautiously, but his face didn't suppress his delight. He then turned to you, a kind smile on his lips. "And Ambrose. I trust she hasn't given you too hard of a time." He winked cheekily.

"What brings me here can wait." The Elder said coolly, shooting a discreet look over to you as to say 'not with them listening.'

Thank god, Ambrose sighed as he saw the woman back off. His anxiety dissipated as he saw Walter appear.

"Sure. She's just swell." he tried to keep his voice diplomatic. There was no point in being rude, since it seemed like Walter knew this lady, whose name was apparentally Estrid.

"So, what'd you want to talk about?" Ambrose turned back to Estrid, tucking his book under obe arm as he did so. He felt better asking her with Walter there.

Walter shot an amused look at you, then looking back at Estrid teasingly "Swell? Then she must've changed more than I realised in the last 20 years." He grinned playfully, but you could see Estrid look back at him with a hint of affection in her gaze, masked over by a roll of the eyes before turning back to you, her gaze going steely again. "Ambrose, could you tell me who your maker was? I couldn't care less what another vampire does for fun, but turning random mortals could be a.. Problem. Our kind doesn't exactly need more problems right now" She sighed, walking over to the small seating area by the hearth and sitting down.

Walter followed, clearly somewhat troubled by her last comment. "What do you mean by more problems? Is something the matter?" He questioned. "We'll get to that, Walter." Estrid said sharply, with that cue, Walter backed down a little. "Right, of course."

"My marker?" Ambrose hurried to follow the two older vampires, sitting near Estrid. "Uh... I didn't catch her name. Had short brown hair, I think, and light eyes."

He honestly hadn't thought much of it in a long time. The first few years were rough, but nowadays it was just part of his life. And the marking hadn't been all that notable - he'd been alone at night, run into someone, and the next thing he knew he was a vampire. Thirty years was a long time for him to remember exact details from an event that was foggy in the first place.

"It didn't happen near here," he added. "I was living somewhere else back then. A few counties over in a town called Tartal's Hollow."

"Hm, not one of mine as far as I know. Still, if I find that fool they'll get a dagger through the heart." She said with clear distaste, her eyes moving over to Walter. "I suppose there's no harm in saying this, but you two should stay on guard. Werewolves, of all things have been cropping up everywhere it seems. I've eradicated them time and time again but they still seem to reappear more numerous each time." Estrid's lip curled into a snarl as she said this, spitting out the word 'werewolves' like venom.

Walter's eyes widened at the news, "Werewolves?" He repeated, his fingers drumming nervously against the wooden table he was leaning against. "You always told me they were extinct." He questioned, his eyes then flicking over to you.

"I thought they were. Everyone did." The ancient vampire admitted, a small fleck of guilt flickered over her features for a second before being replaced by her usual cold demeanour.
