So this has been discussed in a few other suggestion topics, namely these ones here, but... why not just overhaul the entire system in the coding rehaul instead of just trying to fix all the weird broken tiers? Having strict numbers with little to no organization or logic behind it has always bothered me (and many others!) so in this topic I want to suggest a way to fix it. Correctly!

The Current System

Here is how it stands now:
  • Tier 0 - Common Markings: Also known as "NCL Markings" or "Wild Markings", these markings are found on game-generated Newly Claimed Lionesses and rolled pride leaders. They can be obtained via the Marking Applicator in the Oasis, the Oasis Customiser tools, Random Marking Applicators, and Total Shuffles.

  • Tier 1 - Custom Markings: These markings can be applied via the Marking Applicator in the Oasis, the Oasis Customiser tools, Random Marking Applicators, and Total Shuffles.

  • Tier 2 - Raffle Markings: Also known as "Breed-Only Markings" or "Special Markings", these markings originate from raffle lionesses released each week. They cannot be selectively applied and must only be bred down from parents with the markings or randomly obtained with luck from Random Marking Applicators and Total Shuffles.

  • Tier 3 - Event Markings: These markings includes April, February, and September event-exclusive NCL markings, July and August event exclusive markings, exclusive NCL markings (Cinnabar, Clay, Copal, and Marigold), and event applicator markings—basically anything that originates from an event can be found in this tier! Some of these markings cannot be selectively applied, while others can. They can be randomly obtained with luck from Random Marking Applicators and Total Shuffles.

  • Tier 4 - Rosette Markings: These markings can show up seemingly at random during breedings! They cannot be selectively applied, but can be passed down from parents with these markings, or spontaneously occur during breedings. They can be randomly obtained with luck from Random Marking Applicators and Total Shuffles.

  • Tier 5 - Hybrid/Restricted Markings: These markings can only be obtained via first generation hybrids (and their offspring) or Gorilla Enclave/Referral Shop marking applicators. They are blocked from being obtained via Random Marking Applicators and Total Shuffles.

  • Tier 6 - RMA-Exclusive Markings: These markings can only be obtained via Random Marking Applicators and Total Shuffles, or passed down from a parent with these markings.

Verri's Overhauled System

And here is what I propose:
  • Tier I (1) - Common Markings - COMMON markings found on NCLs, rolled kings, and those in that group that can be applied using the Oasis Customizer tool or Marking Applicator. These markings CAN be RMA'd.

  • Tier II (2) - Custom Markings - CUSTOM markings that cannot be found on NCLs or rolled kings, but can be applied using the Oasis Customizer tool or Marking Applicator. These markings CAN be RMA'd.

  • Tier III (3) - Enclave/Craftable/Referral Markings - Markings applied with applicators found in the GORILLA ENCLAVE, REFERRAL SHOP, or CRAFTED from on-hand materials. These markings CANNOT be RMA'd.

  • Tier IV (4) - Event; Applicator Markings - Markings applied with applicators found in EVENTS only; bought from event shops, awarded as storyline prizes, etc. These markings CAN be RMA'd.

  • Tier V (5) - Event; Piety Markings - Markings found on EVENT EXCLUSIVE NCLs and able to be applied in November with piety. These markings CAN be RMA'd.

  • Tier VI (6) - RMA Exclusive Markings - Markings applied with and exclusive to Random Marking Applicators and Total Shuffles. These markings CAN be RMA'd.

  • Tier VII (7) - NCL Exclusive Markings - Markings found exclusively on NCLs that cannot be applied, and must be bred to pass. These markings CAN be RMA'd.

  • Tier VIII (8) - BO Raffle Markings - Markings released on Raffle/Special Lionesses. Cannot be applied, and must be bred to pass. These markings CAN be RMA'd.

  • Tier IX (9) - BO Event Markings - Markings released on event RLs or event studs. Cannot be applied, and must be bred to pass. These markings CAN be RMA'd.

  • Tier X (10) - Rosette Markings - Markings that spontaneously appear sometimes during breeding, following unknown criteria; cannot be selectively applied, but can be passed from parents who have a rosette. These markings CAN be RMA'd.

  • Tier XI (11) - Hybrid Markings - Markings that are passed down from First Generation hybrids. Cannot be selectively applied. These markings CANNOT be RMA'd.

  • Tier * (0) - Unreleased Markings - Markings that have been added to the site, but are not yet in circulation. These markings CANNOT be RMA'd.

mewflakes (#88492) - SUGGESTION to combine BO raffle and BO event markings into one tier

alex|G3 mosaic 7BO bushveld (#53768) - SUGGESTION to have the following tiers:
tier I: NCL, not BO, RMA (ncl marks)
tier II: not NCL, not bo, RMA (current custom, piety, and RMA-able app marks)
tier III: BO, RMA (raffle marks, RMA exclusives, and all BO event and NCL marks)
tier IV: not BO, not RMA (gorilla and craftable apps)
tier V: BO, not RMA (hybrid marks)

Let me know what y'all think!

I think it's too many tiers. My brain is tiny and already forgets what the tiers we already have are. I think it's a little too broken down, like 8 and 9 should be one.

I agree it could be, though since event and raffle marks are separate right now I tried to keep 'em separate here as well. But I'll add your suggestion to the list! ^^

i agree with the suggestion to combine event and raffle bo marks!

i think the most important distinctions for tiers are BO vs non-BO and RMA vs non-RMA, plus (maybe) the distinction between ncl and custom marks, so if you really want to pare it down the tiers can be:

tier I: NCL, not BO, RMA (ncl marks)
tier II: not NCL, not bo, RMA (current custom, piety, and RMA-able app marks)
tier III: BO, RMA (raffle marks, RMA exclusives, and all BO event and NCL marks)
tier IV: not BO, not RMA (gorilla and craftable apps)
tier V: BO, not RMA (hybrid marks)

rosettes can be tier VI since they have special rules, and RMA exclusives can be separated into tier VII if need be, but this plus tier 0 for unreleased marks seems like the most logical system to separate the rest of them.

if you really want to be conservative with the number of tiers, I and II can be combined since the current tier system doesn't discriminate between NCL and non-NCL marks above that tier anyway. personally i think the distinction between NCL and non-NCL marks is useful at that level so people know why NCLs never spawn with (e.g.) pistachio marks, but when you start getting into breed-only marks what type of lion the mark originates from isn't as important.

I'll add those, too! But I am of the opinion that we need more tiers, not less - the biggest problem we face right now is that we have too many different marking types shoved into way too few tiers and that's where the confusion comes from. xD More tiers = more organization and clearer marking types (at least from where I stand).

that's fair! i think the current system has enough tiers to get by with a reorganization, but i definitely see the use for more tiers and your system makes a lot of sense
