Or, How to Differentiate between if your Newly Claimed Lioness is Chased or not.

A frequently asked question people have is, "Is this lioness a chased or not?" This guide is hopefully able to provide the answers to help you make the educated guess on whether your new lady is merely a generated Newly Claimed Lioness, or if a player previously owned her and chased her off.

Table of Contents:
  1. What is a Generated Lioness?
  2. What Defines a Chased Lioness?
  3. What are Visual Examples of a Lioness that is Generated?
  4. What are Visual Examples of a Chased Lioness?
  5. Common Misconceptions

What is a Generated Lioness?

A generated lioness is the most commonly encountered lioness. They are found when you come across a lone lioness in Explore, and select the option to "Claim her?"
They are frequently golden in color, with basic markings. They can have up to three (3) markings total; either all three show up visibly, or she can have a combination of one visible, two hidden, et cetera.
Generated NCLs do have their own exclusive markings, as well as four NCL-exclusive bases - Asali, Dhahabi, Maziwa, and Mobola. The latter has a chance to show up around Average impression, but it does not mean they are chased.
They show up in the Kind, Neutral, or Snarky pose. Given that they are created by the game, they do not have a heritage.

What Defines a Chased Lioness?

A Chased Lioness is a lioness that a player previously owned, but decided to chase her off. This has a chance to add her to the pool of lone lioness encounters. They can show up at Average impression, but are more frequently encountered at higher impression levels.
A common sign that a lioness is chased is that her appearance is not a part of the generated NCL pool. This means their base, eyes, mane shape and color, and pose make her a chased lioness.
They can have anywhere from between zero to twenty [0-20] markings; any markings above slot 10 will be hidden.
They can come in the standard Kind, Neutral, and Snarky poses, but a lioness is always chased if she shows up in the Good or Evil pose.
When a lioness is chased, it wipes their stats and heritage. A chased lioness is frequently sought out by players who prefer to breed to heritage-less lines, or wish to avoid "dirty" lionesses (denoted by signs of inbreeding in their family trees.)
There is a 12-48 hour time period between a lioness being chased and showing up in explore. They are also not guaranteed to show up.

What are Visual Examples of a Lioness that is Generated?

Here is a (little) line up of three lovely ladies who volunteered to be my examples. They are all Newly Claimed Lionesses that have been randomly generated.
The last lioness has the Maziwa base, which is one of the four NCL-exclusive "special" bases.

What are Visual Examples of a Chased Lioness?

Here is another (little) line up of three more lovely ladies who volunteered to be examples of Chased Lionesses.
The first one has a base (Prune) that can only be obtained by breeding [Breed-only] and Stellar eyes.
The second one has the Good pose, and Bushveld markings, which are only obtainable from descendants of raffle lionesses.
The last is surprisingly the simplest of the bunch, as she only has one marking, but it is an applicator-only marking.
All of these girls have signs that they were chased by players previously.

Common Misconceptions
One frequent misconception is that NCLs with Event Markings are chased. During the months of February, April, and September, lionesses have a chance to spawn with event-exclusive markings.

Newly Claimed lionesses cannot and will never spawn with mutations. Generated NCLs will never have them occur, and if a lioness that has a mutation is chased, it will be wiped from her.

A lioness can sometimes be newly claimed with the text that she has had a miscarriage induced on her due to Cotton Root Bark. This is not a sign she is chased, but it does boost mutation chance on her next litter.

Sometimes, when claiming an NCL is successful, she might keep the pose she was in. This is pure luck, and does not indicate a chased lioness.

This guide is a Work in Progress. If you have any suggestions on stuff I might have missed, feel free to comment or PM me and I'll add it to the guide with credit back to you.
Edit Nov 11 '22: I'd like to collect some better examples of chased ladies, if anyone is comfortable to PM me them so I can switch them out

I have a few thing that might be good to add :

That a chased can have between 0-20 markings, where those from slot 11-20 will be hidden markings.
And that a special genetics based NCL is almost always a chased with only 4 exceptions being: Dhahabi, Maziwa, Asali, and Mobola, which are NCL-exclusive bases.

But otherwise great!

Question, as an old player that's still confused, since this is completely new information to me (surprising, after playing since 2015). What proof or sources do we have that show NCLs won't ever be Evil or Good, and only Chased lionesses will show up in those poses?

There is a post about it. And since good and evil only comes if you have a certain karma threshhold (if they are not good or evil already or you use a personality changer) the cannot be generated

Telling me there's a post doesn't really help me find any source material to back up this claim, so I'd appreciate a link being posted here or sent to my PMs so I could read up. Because again, as far as I'm aware, a base NCL can generate in any personality. Karma may have impact on the personality they generate with for you in explore, which I haven't seen any proof on either, but I don't think Good and Evil can only be a Chased.

Every personality can be chased. It's just evil and good are always chased.
As you can't get it from the ncls.

I'm trying to find the thing I literally just read this morning but It's taking a minute...

No problem, the wiki doesn't really say much. though I saw someone saying that after they try to capture a chased it gets deleted if you don't catch it and I have searched for that answer on here. and nothing (hence why I actually was on here and read that this morning)
