Desdemona

Desdemona lived a very interesting life. She was several years old when an elderly Peculiar Sightings came across her pride, who was being abandoned by their king. He was desperately dispersing his pride, those who remained were severely underweight and near death. Peculiar offered two of the scrawny lionesses refuge, but his pride was far away and the two weak lionesses traveled all night to reach it. The other lioness died on the journey, but told Desdemona to carry on without her. She reached the territory, feeble and exhausted, but there was no sign of the pride. She turned around to hobble back to her friend so that she too could die but she didn't get far before the elderly king came loping up. He begged her to come back to his pride, she didn't have to die and he promised that she would be taken care of. Desdemona agreed and accepted the help of the king to get her back to the pride. After a few good meals and being surrounded by the curious pride she perked up and her coat became sleek and shiny. She occasionally thinks of her fallen comrade and mourns her, but hopes that she went somewhere better. Desdemona harbored an intense loathing of her old king for the rest of her life but is thankful to have found a new pride.

In her long life in the pride she bore several litters of cubs, most sired by Peculiar's successor Leocanto. She is a highly valued lioness within the pride. Her final daughter Equidona lived her entire life in the pride.
