When Slate showed signs of being unfit to rule, Mouse and Crystal were both potential runners for the throne. Crystal was older than Mouse, had been part of the pride for longer, and was more experienced, but he never took any interest in ruling the pride. Instead, he wholeheartedly supported his adoptive younger brother Mouse as he stepped up, advising the young king. When Flame In Dragon's Mouth was adopted in, he was every bit the excited older brother, gladly willing to step aside for Flame to be the next in line to Mouse. Many find it odd that Crystal, with his charming looks, beautiful wings, and kindly personality didn't ever go for rulership, or even leave the pride to start his own, but some of the older lionesses understand why he was hesitant, and won't go spilling what he told them.
