Morathi was nearly dead and everything. You didn't frazzle my nerves or anything like that. e_e You watched Kalere walk through the tall grass almost completely hidden and wondered how they would do on a hunt. Kalere plays a slightly different role in the hunt than her mother and grandmother before her... A dwarf lioness might be a rarity within the pride - there's rarely more than two at any given time - but for several generations now there has been a smaller-than-average lioness forming part of the pride's hunting group. Traditionally this lioness would prove herself useful in one of two ways: she would be light-footed and able to travel over marshy ground where her larger, heavier sisters struggled or she might prove to be adept at sneaking unusually close to prey in order to spook it and drive it towards her pride-sisters. Kalere can play her part in both of these roles - it's just that she also has a real talent for hunting small to medium sized prey mostly by herself. As a youngster she swiftly realised that getting too involved in bringing down larger prey was dangerous for her. She never came to actual harm herself but she witnessed enough near misses and saw quite enough scars close up to recognise that hunting was a dangerous business. Kalere therefore honed her skills on prey she could overcome more easily despite her diminutive size. It's quite usual for the pride to witness Kalere trotting proudly out of a scrubby area with a warthog or small impala gripped tightly in her jaws.
