So close to being king
So, Digre was born to Madonach at a time when the king was searching for his heir. On his birth, Madonach recognized that Digre was different, and made several comments on kinging the cub. One night, a group of 3 wandering bachelors make the foolish mistake of attacking the pride. At the time, not only did the 3 foolish males have to deal with the king himself, but the kings closest companions, and all the kings young heirs as well. Each were desperate to prove themselves for their own reasons and they fought to the bloody death. Madonach suffered heavy injuries, and the old king never did fully recover. Digre saw his chance, even going so far as to sneak off with a small group of the large pride who he could convince that he was king.
But, this did not go unnoticed by the kings loyal lionesses. They alerted their king of the princes rogueish ways, and Madonach had no reason to not believe him. He had done the same when the time came for him to be king. However, while young Digre was away one night tending his small harem, Madonach passed his crowning gift to his chosen heir, Kalliaros. Digre woke the next morning to the commotion of Kalliaros discovering the location of the splinter pride. His lionesses were scattering, some of the older lionesses running away, while the younger ones went straight back to the main pride. Kalliaros had been given his fathers primal gift the past night, his size and appearance forever changed. Digre recognized he was no match, and not wanting a fight, or worse, exile, submitted to his new king with an apology, belly up.
Kalliaros allowed Digre to stay, under the condition that he remain on the outskirts of the pridelands, where he'd chosen to hide his harem in the first place. Digre agreed, and since has only been rarely seen by the rest of the pride.
The few who have seen him, say hes pulled out all of his mane. From stress or insanity, or something else, they do not know. Kalliaros went to investigate after interrupting his lionesses who were all discussing the rogue. He discovered Digre lying down in an open field, casting a wary glance at him as he approached. Before Kalliaros could make sense of what he was seeing, Digre darted off.
