Queen Atiena is a goddess from the stars above and came to bless this pride she now rules.
However, she needs a vessel to be able to exist on Earth. A lion must be sacrificed so she can take control of their physical form. It always ends up looking like her once she takes ahold of it though and the stress of being on the planet still strains her godly spirit and has a tendency to make her ooze a peculiar black substance.
Most lions are willing to be sacrificed for the celestial being as it means they will be blessed greatly in the afterlife and their loved ones will be protected by Queen Atiena herself.
Unfortunately, the goddess' vessel ages and is susceptible to injury. While it can't truly kill her, this means the sacrifices must continue as long as she wishes to walk amongst mortals.

Queen Atiena Is often described as being selfless, generally merciful, and protecting to those that are clearly less fortunate or are ruled over by her. However, she can be ruthless and violent towards those that get in the way of what she believes to be the greater good, defy her with no valid (in her opinion) reasoning, or harm those she has vowed to serve. She's intelligent, can usually place her emotions on the back burner to make smarter decisions, and is a powerful enemy in combat even if she tries to avoid it. Though her ability to distance herself has made her unfairly cold to stronger outsiders in an attempt to protect the weak and her pride - something that goes directly against her strongly felt goal of overall peace. The goddess has rather unexpected traits as well. She's extremely polite and perhaps even a bit flirtatious towards most lionesses, viewing them as more important members of society than males and preferring to court a rival pride's to weaken them rather than instigate any kind of fight. She was distant towards her sons - Alaric and Adelio - but she was secretly very proud of their accomplishments. She's worried about her thr pather her goddess daughter - Muraty - may take.
