— BIOGRAPHY —

varn is the half brother of v'kai and vashkartzen. despite being an "oops" child of v'kai and vashkartzen's mother, vashti, and her childhood friend, kingfisher, varn is not loved any less by his mother, or his adoptive father, viskar. vashti passes suddenly and unexpectedly due to a mysterious illness when varn is barely weaned, leaving viskar and his brothers to raise him.

when varn is a young adolescent, he decides to follow in his mother's paws and become champion. vashti was reigning queen of the championships for many years, holding the title of "valkyrie". after a year of training with his older brother, vashkartzen, he finally develops the strength and will to enter (along with an annoyingly cocky attitude). donning his mother's cloak, and with the crowd whispering "is that the son of the valkyrie?" around him, varn presents himself, and wins.

varn earns the championship title of "the spartan", but can't help but feel conflicted at the constant comparisons to his mother. he never knew her like his brothers did, and he feels as if he is being held to much higher standards simply for being her son. this comes to a head in a fight with vashkartzen, who is ever protective of his mother, and a rift forms between the brothers.

they attempt to repair their rocky relationship in the following year, but aren't given much time before an attack on the championships changes all of their lives...
