ʜᴇ ɪꜱ ᴛʜᴇ ᴋɪɴɢ ᴏꜰ ᴀʟʟ ᴅᴇᴍᴏɴꜱ ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ɢᴏᴇᴛɪᴀ. ᴛʜᴇ ᴍɪɢʜᴛʏ ᴋɪɴɢ ᴄᴏᴍᴍᴀɴᴅꜱ ᴀ ʟᴇɢɪᴏɴ ᴏꜰ 85 ᴅᴇᴍᴏɴꜱ. ʜᴇ ᴅᴇᴍᴀɴᴅꜱ ʏᴏᴜʀ ʀᴇꜱᴘᴇᴄᴛ, ꜰᴇᴀʀʟᴇꜱꜱ ᴀɴᴅ ʜᴜᴍʙʟᴇɴᴇꜱꜱ ᴡɪᴛʜɪɴ ʜɪꜱ ᴘʀᴇꜱᴇɴᴄᴇ. ʏᴏᴜ ᴍᴜꜱᴛ ʙᴇ ꜱᴛʀᴏɴɢ ᴛᴏ ᴡɪᴛʜꜱᴛᴀɴᴅ ʜɪꜱ ᴛᴇꜱᴛꜱ ᴀɴᴅ ᴍɪɢʜᴛ ᴡɪʟʟ ᴛʜᴀᴛ ʜᴇ ᴄʜᴀʟʟᴇɴɢᴇꜱ ʏᴏᴜ, ᴛᴏ ʙᴇ ᴀʙʟᴇ ᴛᴏ ᴛᴇᴀᴄʜ ʏᴏᴜ ʜɪꜱ ꜱᴇᴄʀᴇᴛꜱ. What this mighty demon teaches is not science, malice, lust, violence nor chaos but love.

Beleth was an outsider. She was unloved by her former pride. An outcast, she’d think to herself when she grew into her adolescence. Although those thoughts plagued her mind on a constant basis, the young lioness knew she was loved and adored by her adoptive father’s pride. Xiao Lu was kind and Beleth couldn’t have ever asked for a better King to have taken her in. She was happy that Xihe had found her and placed an offer.

At the age of 1 year and 6 months the beautiful teardrop lioness was called to talk with Xiao Lu. Beleth felt fear for the first time in her life. The gentle female sat in front of her adoptive father and looked at the ground, she was nervous. What if he wanted to send her away? Was she in trouble?

Xiao Lu’s gentle voice drifted into Beleth’s ears, “My dear daughter, lift your head. There is no need for fear.”

In response, Beleth lifted her head and looked into the golden eyes of the noble King, they glimmered with endless kindness and empathy. “What have you called me for then my father?”

A smile came onto the older king’s face, “You are my heir, Beleth. I have chosen you to lead the pride when I return to my mother.”

Shock. That was all the lioness could feel. Beleth was reeling. Her young mind was in tatters! Her? Heir? Impossible! She was an outsider! How could this happen? Was Xiao Lu joking? She wasn’t fit to lead! She was timid and… and… Beleth felt a paw touch her head and she looked up into the eyes of her king.

“My sweet, calm yourself.” He waited until Beleth regaining control of herself which took a few moments of heavy breathing and thumping her tail. The king then took his paw off Beleth’s head and she sighed.

“Father… Why?” She was confused and elated but she didn’t feel as if she should be the one taking Xiao Lu’s spot. Beleth was not from his direct bloodline and from her former pride, even though she was very young… All heirs were blood related to the former king. As such, it was slightly difficult for her to process that she was the heir to Xiao Lu’s pride.

“You have heard this pride’s history, yes?” Xiao Lu asked Beleth who nodded eagerly, she loved hearing about the nameless huntress who was strong and beautiful. The young lioness wondered what it had to do with the choosing of the heir. It was only a legend right? “The nameless huntress was my mother. I am a cub of the sun and a huntress with no name or heritage.”

Beleth was speechless. She thought this pride had a longer history seeing as the lionesses whom resided in the pride were only the most beautiful with outstanding hunting skills. She was honoured to be among their presences and she felt ashamed to have never realised the true heritage of the pride. Xiao Lu’s low voice cut into her inner most thoughts yet again.

“Do not fret Beleth. You are the one of the only lions to know of my true heritage. My mother told me before she was called to the sun’s side that the bloodline of light does not need to pass through blood but through the goodness of one’s heart.” Xiao Lu paused, giving the teardrop girl a gentle smile, “Beleth your kindness and love shines through in all your actions. You may not notice it yourself but you bring love and brightness to this pride. Much more than I ever have. You are the light of this pride, you are the love of this pride. Which is why I have chosen you as my heir. Beleth, the giver of love and light. Will you accept this honour, dear daughter?”

She was frozen. Beleth had never thought of herself in that way nor did she think the rest of the pride saw her the same way Xiao Lu did. They saw more to her than she’d ever thought there’d be. Beleth thought of herself as a burden and outsider but everyone else saw her differently. She knew she wanted to live up to their image of her, with that thought in mind, she spoke. “I will humbly accept your offer, King Xiao Lu.” The lioness ended with a bow.

“Good.” He touched his head with hers. “I will pass on the the light when the time comes Beleth. As for now, keep training with Tao Meng. He will guide you and teach you the ways of the tracker as well as the way of the land.”

“Thank you father.” Beleth murmured as Xiao Lu blessed her. As she raised herself from her bow, the felt a sudden rush of wind and a bright light flashed before the lioness’ eyes. Her body shuddered and she quickly shut her eyes. For a few moments Beleth stood deathly still and let the wind rush over her fur.

“Open your eyes.” A whisper came faintly from behind her and she did. Beleth stood alone in the cave, her adoptive father nowhere to be seen. As she looked down there was a small pool of crystal clear water and on her fur were shamanistic swirls. Brightly coloured and arranged in an incarnate pattern. The young lioness smiled gently down at her reflection and thought to herself, how lucky am I? I am loved and I will love to repay the love given to me from this beautiful pride.
