Sometimes the most beloved figures are changed by one event.
A cruel king needed to be defeated in order for the Fang Peaks to even be considered a kingdom anymore. the land had become a frozen wasteland, the only reason most lions had not left was because of a still running hot spring in the centre of mountain range. To run away, into the icy wastes, was a death sentence. This cruel king was named Kasstor, he had little respect for life and even less for his own lionesses. It was his cold supernatural nature that was literally freezing everything and killing the land. Something needed to be done but Kasstor was an incredibly strong primal, not to mention his ice powers made him impossible to beat in a fight. But Kasstor did have one weakness, he was prideful, so prideful he thought he could not die.
The lionesses realized this and bided their time, creating a secret rebellion of sorts. Those lionesses with bloodlines going back to the previous kings bred with strangers in secret. The sons they produced where called hidden princes. Many of these princes were discovered and killed by Kasstor, but a few survived by being skilled at hiding. Antarez was the eldest of these princes, he was beloved amongst his caretakers for his kindness and bravery.
When Kasstor grew old and feeble enough Antarez and his cousins finally where able to challenge him for the throne. Together they won without any further casualties, but Antarez was badly injured as he killed the evil king. His eyes where scratched out and he was blinded. The best Shamans in the pride where able to heal him with the magic items the pride hoard. Antarez was brought back from the brink of death but he was never the same after. His new eyes still looked blind but could now see not only reality but the astral plane all at once. He could astrally project himself without the need of any protective wings, and he could pass down his abilities too his offspring. But it all came at a price, he now had trauma to deal with, which made him dissociated and stoic. His fur became darker, his astral visions twisted and dark, and his body became more feminine.
He still loves his family, his pride, and his queen, but he has a hard time showing empathy. He protects everyone, but he is paranoid and violent towards most outsiders, except strangely enough small cats. He has stolen several cats from human settlements as comfort animals.

The eldest of the hidden princes, and known as the prince of scorpions, Antares is kind and protective of the lionesses, especially the elders who are not well cared for by the frozen king. He is the best at hiding out of all the princes and has taught his cousins his skills so that they will not be murdered by Kasstor.
The time is drawing near for the king to step down from old age. Kasstor however thinks he is immortal, this makes Antares worried that the changing of the kings may result in bloodshed.
While he has many admirers, and is willing to sire cubs with all, Antares only has real love for Nekhbet. She has been his most trusted advisor for quite a while and has his heart and trust.
