It was unknown where Kayonga came from or who his parents are as he is quite reserved from sharing details of his life prior to becoming a rogue lion yearning to start his own pride. All that is known is at the age of 2 years old, he left his birth pride behind and spent a couple of months as a rogue before settling in an unclaimed patch of land near Mount Kilimanjaro.

Now that he has claimed some territory of his own, it is time for him to find someone special to share it with and start working on building on their pride.

Shortly after starting his first patrol in his new kingdom, Kayonga encountered a lioness named Makana. Excited at the chance of claiming a lioness to start his pride with, Kayonga tried his best to win the lioness' affections. He showed her how strong and powerful he was by puffing out his chest and letting out a big, loud roar. He made promises what a wonderful life she will live in a territory bountiful in prey with a lovely view Mount Kilimanjaro where their cubs will grow up happily without fear and worry. And where they will grow old together under its stars and sunsets.

As she stared at him unblinkingly, he couldn't help but feel his confidence waver a bit. Was she going to want to go with him to start their lives together, or was she going to slap and run away from him and he will have to find a lioness who is more accepting? As he gently walked towards her with his eyes fixated on her soft, olive green eyes, he gently rubbed his head against hers, hoping that this act will help determine her decision. As his head slowly moved from her head to the back of her neck he took in her scent and took a deep, calm breath. He felt his heart jump a bit, when she finally returned the gesture and rubbed her head into his thick, regal mane with a loving growl. At that moment, they knew that they will be mates until death due them part.
