Febren was run out of his home pride at two years old, the typical life of a male cub who wasn't the designated future king. His cubhood had been spent wrestling with his brothers, teething on bones or thick roots or blades of grass, bowling over his littermates by using his greater strength and size to his advantage. He learned early on that the toughest, roughest lion would come out on top - all except for in the case of daddy's favourite, a cruel trial by which Febren was chosen to leave rather than his more temperate brother.
Life on the Savannah as a loner rather than a pride lion was harsh. Only after a year of exploring on his own did he finally find an area of land to claim, a weak and rather small pride with only an older lion and a few straggling lionesses, as many other lionesses and their cubs had abandoned their elder caretaker as his strength began to dwindle. Killing him hardly seemed like a challenge and the reward was minimal, but without anything else to start from, it seemed like a fair if meek beginning. The only lioness to stay from the older pride was one of the younger ones, a Huntress named Saharaan, who would become Febren's Head Huntress and personal Adviser. She was loyal to him and helped him begin his pride, rather indifferent toward his more aggressive attitude as he was a greater protector and leader than the lion she had grown with as a role-model.
Remaji was the first to join. She and Febren had one cub, who would later come to be called Frost (Owned by Nutmeg [#55961]). Selket later joined and became Febren's sub-male after a short while, when the king decided that he preferred his adopted son to his biological one, thinking that the white pelt Frost had inherited from Remaji would be a great weakness and that only the stronger son could be an heir. The young cub was run out as soon as he was able to fend for himself, only allowed extended time by Remaji's pleading rather than Febren's mercy.
Others were soon allowed to join, though Febren began to grow pickier and pickier. He continued to expand his territory, but his criteria that needed to be met before joining his pride was on a constant rise. Two more lionesses were welcomed, a former zoo-lion that was released named Mattie and a beautiful loner named Kori were welcomed as trophies at first. Kori had been run out of her own pride for venturing too far from their territory and flirting with outside lions, much to the aggravation of her former king. Febren began to favour her greatly, allowing her to get away with almost anything in exchange for her company.
More cubs joined as well, though they were often brought to Febren by his lionesses, as any more that he ran into would likely be killed on the spot. Eventually, he came across a lioness that caught his fancy: Zatani was welcomed into the pride along with her sister Tabara, both of whom had been seeking refuge after their pride was nearly destroyed by poachers. Zatani became Febren's queen. Unfortunately, her sister was eventually murdered by Febren, and she too would be killed when she'd fallen from the king's favour. Her compassionate nature and kind heart did not fare well as she was viewed as weak. He had two daughters with her before her death; Meela was the only one who survived, her sister murdered in equally cold-blood by her father.
Febren took up a new queen who would be more quiet and obedient, deciding that Remaji would suffice for the time being.
