Your paws squelch on the muddy river bank. You have traveled far and the cool air that skims off the surface of the water is a welcome feeling. The trees in the background sway in the breeze, dragging your attention to a small group of cubs wrestling in the mud and splashing in the water.
You watch them, cautious of the possibility a lioness is near.
When no lioness steps out of the surrounding bushes you step closer. With a loud squelch, the cubs finally take notice of you. They scan you up and down, whipping their tales behind them.
You blink and the cubs tilt their heads, taking light steps toward you.
“Hello,” One says. “Who are you?”
You introduce yourself and the cubs stare at each other deciding what to do with a nod.
“Follow us!” Another squeaks as they hop away from the river bank and into the bushes. The other two follow, looking back at you to make sure you are too.
When they finally step out of more bushes you take in the open clearing filled with lions and lionesses going about peacefully. Two of the cubs run off to their mothers while the last one continues to lead you along.
“Our queen is this way. She will be pleased to meet a new stranger.” They squeak.
You follow the cub, scanning the surrounding mounds of fallen trees and built-up dirt to make hollows.
When the cub comes to a stop you can hear the faint rush of falling water. As you finish your scan you notice a stunning lioness sitting in front of you. Her coat is full of color. Pinks, oranges, reds, and blues color the patches between stripes of white. Her eyes are a deep stunning blue as she studies you.
The cub squeaks and the lioness gives a smile and nods as they run off to play with the other cubs again.
The pale blue feathers and straps of fabric rustle as she stands to her feet and dips her head to you in greeting and recognition. “Welcome to my pride. I am Eleos, the queen.”
