Ferning's Den
As you treck into this strange rocky cliffside, you notice faces of cubs peering at you from various ledges, and lurking in caves. A few lionesses lounge on the sunny rocks jutting from the cliffside, or snooze in the shade.
There's also a pair of male lions dozing under the shade of a singular large tree. A somewhat awkward looking red and gold felis male, and another male of a deep red color. The dark red male swats at the gold one to go greet you and 'be polite.'.
Looking a bit uncomfortable, he trudges up to you and gives a greeting. Clearly rehearsed, but still very sweet and friendly.
He apologizes for the curious stares of the cubs, and lets you know that there is a small shop if you're in need of supplies before retreating back to his previous place.
Must not be a very social lion, poor guy.

Pride Jobs!

King/Queen: Generally only the king or his descendents may reign, but sometimes a trusted sub-male will step in until the heir is old enough to take his or her place.
Sub-males: They are in charge of training the heir, patrolling for dangers in the lionesses hunting grounds. Often the first in line to battle for the safety of the pride.
Huntresses: Almost all lionesses old enough to hunt will fall into this category. They feed the pride from the lands the sub-males guard so carefully, and take great pride in doing so. If a lioness feels like she wants another job, she'll have to ask the lead huntress.
Lead-huntress: While the King may enforce the rules, she makes them. If anyone wishes to switch jobs, she makes the choice. If she deems the pridelands as too dangerous, the pride will be moving locations. If the others agree with her choice, then it is final.
Broodmothers: Anyone can become a broodmother if they have an affinity for cubs, though it is typically only older lionesses that can't keep up with the hunt anymore.
Sometimes even a sub-male will be posted to permanently guard the cubcave, rather than patrol. :)
Shaman: Can be either male or female, doesn't matter. They're usually an older lion and will provide medical care as best they can, and often a firm word or two if they feel you were being reckless for no reason! They don't always have spiritual powers. Sometimes, but not usually. Just sagely wisdom.

The pridelands were claimed by other lions until Jax got here, and managed to fight to grow his meager territory into something worth living in. He amassed a small fortune of useless items, and when someone jokingly mentioned he could start a shop, of course he had to do it.
He doesn't have the strength to grow it anymore, and so the task will fall to his son and heir, Ferning. He had such pride in his son and it's heartwarming to see.
