Flux's Den

Your paws feel like they are on fire as you pad into a territory clearly different from the ones you have seen before. The place is desolate, the ground seems to somehow be smoldering from the inside, smoke hanging heavy and acidic in the still air, ash falling like snow from the sky. It does not look like a place where anything could live and suddenly you are more frightened about finding creatures here than of finding yourself alone, for what kind of creature could call this place home?

You turn on the spot, stepping tenderly, your paw-pads burning with the heat radiating from the sooty grounds, with every plan of leaving. You trip over some large objects, skulls and bones seem to 'decorate' the lands in place of living grass and shrubs. You spot a human skull and find that a little worrisome, but when you realize that some of the bones are unmistakably lion, adrenaline floods your system and fear makes you lightheaded. Sure, you would expect lions that had been living here to have died out, that would be one thing, but you are pretty certain those bones have gnaw marks on them. Now you pick up your pace, just wanting out of here.

Before you, appearing to step directly from the smoke itself, a scarred and hollow eyed lion materializes. His orange eyes seem lit with fire themselves and a sneer is on his bloodied muzzle. Embers from nearby trees fall to his coat, searing away hair, yet he seems to hardly notice the burns, only twitching slightly and indifferently in response. His focus remains on you and at first you think you might stand a chance of leaving this place whole, after all you are larger than the other male, even if he does seem nearly oblivious to pain. It is then that you realize a smile, crooked and ugly, has spread across the other animal's face. Then movement in your peripheral vision causes you to glance from side to side. You are surrounded by slender, scrappy, scarred and vicious looking lionesses. The females lick their lips, salivating noticeably as they close the gap. And you realize...

It's dinner time.
