Pretty much what the title says.

Not permanent disable, but a temporary one where you could turn it back off/on if you wanted.

It doesn't even have to be a big change (such as completely removing chatter from the top header - I am not suggesting this.)
I'm proposing that there be a button that you can disable the forums or "Chatter" with and perhaps it just makes the link inactive for you until you turn it back on.

Yes, I know what you're thinking. "If you don't like it then just ignore it." It's not really that easy for some people to just straight up ignore things. Take the instance of the chat box for example. I was so glad when the toggle on/off was implemented because then I actually could ignore it. If people said something I didn't like (such as normal consistent conversation in the sales chat) then I could just ignore them and turn off the chat box. Why not for the forums too?

Some people just want to get on here and not deal with all the drama that goes on in the forums sometimes. Maybe they just want to bump their threads for the day and not have to deal with looking at the other posts in Chatter a lot. Maybe they mistook something as rather rude that someone posted and just want to completely ignore it, but their compulsion just drives them to post because they keep continuously seeing the thread being bumped, responded to, etc.
