I third Venna. Skulls, feathers, etc do a pretty good job at increasing mood with the lioness.

Explore to find amusement items or buy them. You can use them on lionesses more than once a day, then you have no problem.
I don't feed lions i have up for trade or use amusement items on them to save them for pride members i actually want to keep. If they aren't bought before reaching adulthood they run when they turn 2. Saves me having to sort through them, saves territory space and saves them sitting in my pride for weeks unwanted. Saves food and items being wasted on lions that are just going to get chased anyway.
Works for me and no one who has bought any of my trades has ever complained about low mood or high hunger.
If a newbie buys any of them I'll usually send a carcass and food item so they don't lose them if they don't know how to gather stuff.

If you have any cubs or lions that're a drain that you'd rather just get rid of (those that won't sell for instance) I do have an 'Orphanage' I've set up on my side account, to help newbies and keep the lions fed/happy in the mean time.

either make it so we can do more to improve a lion/esses mood beyond ONE interaction a day

You can already do this with amusement items or toys. You can use these items until the lion has 100% mood, there's no limit. If you can't afford toys you can find feathers and skulls in explore very easily.

make the one who sold you the lion/ness have to pay you back what you paid them for him/her

Once you buy a lion, it's your lion. Other users shouldn't be punished for your mistakes or inability to care for lions you've bought.
