While I can see the benefits of this, as a mod on another forum, I can easily see how this would drive staff crazy in terms of keeping track of things that people say.
It would be easy for someone to post something offensive, but quickly get rid of the evidence. :/

But keep in mind that if they say something offensive, the people insulted might get banned for "liying", because the person that insulted deleted it's message.

And having a file to keep track of EVERY CHAT and EVERY MESSAGE of it... wouldn't it be.. well.. laggy?

True. Perhaps like you said expect instead each member has a little chat information only the staff can see like "this member deleted this post; " post here blehbleh" on soso in chat soso ^^

like what was said above me perhaps to separate it and make it no so laggy each member could have their own. So the staff could go directly to the accused member and check it out.

Or it would only show the deleted messages?

I support, just saying there should be like some sort of chat log, so the mods could see what happens when chats are deleted.

I agree with this, however I think that if a message is deleted the mods should be able to see it somehow. For example, on discord if you delete a message, you and the other members cannot see the message anymore. However there is usually a chat admins and mods have access to that shows the messages that've been deleted. It would work like that on here, except instead of having a whole chat of deleted messages, the message wouldn't delete on the mods account in the first place (but would be marked as something like "message has been deleted" or "deleted message," plus it could have a different color, such as a dulled red/blue). I think same goes for editing messages. Sometimes I make spelling errors or accidentally click enter too early, so I think having the ability to edit messages would be useful. Mods would see the original and edited message on the same chat (deleted version and edited version examples):

Maybe similar to flagging a message you can send a message to mod box that shows you made a mistake with what you sent and they will delete it so you can retype it.

The benefits aren't big enough for it to be needed. Yeah sure I may accidentally post a stud ad in main and want to delete it.. but also the chat moves so fast it seems like really needless extra coding. Especially considereding that 1. Warnings issued by the mods for this don't affect the users account and 2. It gets deleted by staff within a minute or two, anyway.

Not only that, but let's be honest most people would use the deletion feature to say bad things in chat and delete them quickly as to not get caught. Not to mention it could be used to post links to external sites, get people to click, then quickly delete before mods see it. This of course would be considering that I highly doubt a log of deleted messages and the user who sent it would be stored.

That being said no real reason to add it. The mods have it 100% under control, and this feature could be one that'd be easily exploited.


Editing to add:

The reason why storing the messages to view later wouldn't work well is bc.. well they wouldn't need that feature if you couldn't delete messages. Chat is far safer without that feature, and again lioden mods delete any unwanted clutter in main pretty speedy.
