Hopefully everyone here has read the books, if not, heres a quick summary [straight from Amazon, and spoil free] of the first book.

Still interested? Good. Cos heres where it gets a bit weird. And possibly spoiler-y. Basically, there's a house run by Ms,Peregrine, whose a time-traveling/time controlling shape shiftier that can only turn into a peregrine falcon. She's called a Ymbryne, and she takes care of kids with ability's or Peculiars. (think X-Man but kids). And like any cool X-men, they have enemies. In this case, there are things called hollowgasts that hunt and eat Peculiars.
Remember when i said Ms,Peregrine could control time? Well, in order to protect the Peculiar children from the hollowgasts, Ms,Peregrine created a loop in time. To avoid spoilers, it's a day in the year 1940. Though Peculiar children can come from time's before or after 1940. Meaning they can enter the loop and live in the house after the year 1940, or they can be from a time a bit before 1940.
