Lysandre sighed, trying to comb out a small knot in his curly, black hair. It was quiet in the morning, and the prince's lips were pressed into a thin line. Every sound made his head look to the door of his chambers expectantly, and then deflate when he realized it wasn't the sound of someone coming upstairs.

He laid down his comb, finally accepting his mother wasn't going to visit him like she usually did. The last few weeks were wild for him, with the king's burial being hot on the heels of the queen's remarriage. He had a delayed reaction to the sound of actual footsteps on the stairs though, just staring at the door, hope blossoming in his chest.

Ailith looked up at her mother as they approached the castle, her mother avoiding her gaze with a reluctant sigh. The woman had to give her daughter to the royal family as they needed more help, of course the middle-aged blonde was worried for her only child but she knew it'd be for the best. "Mom?" Ailith whispered when they walked inside, waiting for the royals to arrive.

"You'll be fine Ailith.." The woman cracked a smile as her eyes shimmered. Ailith noticed red behind her only parent's brown eyes and her heart clutched in her chest, "Come back and visit me in a few days..." She whispered with a bow towards the Queen that was approaching them.

Queen Lucida Halfaxi had quite a bit to do this morning, but thankfully Eridanus, her now-husband, was there to help. Her former brother in law, no less. There was a silence between them as the approached the foyer, the start of the day's meetings only beginning. A mother and child, both lowborn.

"New servants," Eridanus leaned to whisper in her ear, and she nodded, taking her seat in front of the two peasants, the new king on her left.

She crossed her hands on her lap, fingers locking together. Lucida regarded the two, giving them a polite smile. "You stand before the queen and king of Gulifaxi, what news do you bring?" She asked.

The woman bowed to the Queen and her new husband, "A few weeks ago new maids and servants were requested, if I'm not mistaken. And I'm here to.." She looked over at her daughter sadly, "Hand my only child over. Is it alright that she visits when she is not busy?" She pleaded, hoping the couple would understand since Ailith was her baby.

The Queen's amiable face faltered for a few seconds. "A noble sacrifice. Our servants may go home at the day's end, unless they stay overnight or live in the servant's quarters in the castle. Some, like my ladies-in-waiting, must live here, as well as the cooks. Unless your daughter is assigned to be my son's new... maid in waiting, of course. But if she is, she'd still have times she could come home."

Lucida tried her best to smile again, though it came out a bit forced. This was having an effect on her, it seemed, while Eridanus wasn't as affected, just sitting pretty as he watched, petting his small beard.

The blonde furrowed her brows slightly at the queen when she noticed her forced smile, Ailith looked over at her mother that was clearly holding back tears. "Thank you, My Queen. If I may be excused.." Ailith's mother whispered as she gave a respectful bow and backed out of the room. The teenager knew to stay put unless the Queen gave order for the blonde to exit. Ailith's blue gaze drifted back to the Queen and locked both hands behind her back, bowing slightly as she waited to either be spoken to or dismissed.

The queen nodded, watching the woman walk away.The guards at the door would be more than happy to escort her out, while the ones at the doors inside didn't move at all. This time, though Eridanus spoke up.

"Now, do you have any skills at all? I know my lovely queen is looking for someone to take care of her- our... son. That, and we do need a new gardener, or someone to clean house..."

"She could be best for my son, they look about the same age, hmm?" Lucida looked to the king, then to Alith, "How old are you, dear?"

Ailith met the Queen's eyes and smiled, "I'm sixteen. Almost seventeen." She replied. She'd never met the Prince, and she hoped he wasn't the kind who believed he controlled everyone.

Lucida looked to the king, who looked back at her. "Lysander is almost eighteen, he could stand less of my presence and more of someone his age's," The queen put a finger to her lips, thinking.

Eridanus gave Alilth an appraising look, before giving a nod, "Perhaps. For now, we'll have you as the prince's servant. If anything comes up, we'll switch you. Your payment will be 500 crowns every season, and you'll have access to the servant's quarters and food there as well. Will that suffice?" The king tilted his head at the young girl.

"If that is fine, Sir Fiore will escort you to the prince's chambers," he gently motioned with his hand to a knight that slowly came up to the woman's side, who was previously guarding the door.

Ailith tensed when the knight came up beside her, she hadn't noticed him there before. Her blue orbs glanced between the knight and the royal couple, Ailith gave a bow to them and looked at the knight as she waited for him to lead her out of what she believed to be the court room. Ailith sighed, her body visibily shaking in fear of meeting the heir of Gulifaxi. "What if he's abusive?" The blonde wondered to herself, releasing a shaky breath.

Ser Fiore was silent, the only interaction he has with Ailith during their walk through the castle is turning to see if she was still following, or allowing her to catch up with his much longer strides. The castle itself was large, and wherever the prince was, it was on the other side of the whole damn castle.

Finally, the knight started up a slight of stairs, going slowly up a tower. There was a small foyer with a door opposite the stairs. The foyer had a table with chairs, and looked generally nice to sit in, but Fiore ignored it, banging on the door with a gauntlet.

It took Lysander a few seconds but he quickly opened the door. "Mo- o-oh!" His eyes went wide as he stared to the face of a knight, and not at all whoever he was expecting, "Ah... hello? Is there... something the matter?" he looked past the knight's shoulder, spying a new girl. Confusion hit his face.

Ailith tensed at the prince and quickly bowed, "Your mother assigned me as your servant..." she whispered as she avoided eye contact with him. He seemed nice at the first glance, but Ailith knew a lot about men. And some weren't polite at all. "My name is Ailith..."

Lysander's shoulders drooped a little and a smile tugged at his lips before a practiced neutral expression came to his face. He looked at the knight, but his face was, as usual, covered with his helm. He was almost a statue. Not getting a denial, Lysander had to accept he now had a servant at his own beck and call.

Now what did he do? He gave her a small nod, folding his hands in front of him. "I'm Prince Lysander, a pleasure, Ailith..." He probably shouldn't have trailed off like that, but this wasn't a princess or anything else he needed to be formal with.

"... I assume my mother is with my... father, yes?"
