I've been on an art block for years now, I had a lot happen that stopped me from being able to draw digitally (which is my main form of drawing) and now I try doing the things I used to be able to do and I flat out can't do it? I have no idea where to start on how to get back into it. I can barely draw a few lines before suddenly all inspiration is lost and it frustrates me. I tried looking up art that I like for more inspiration, I tried listening to music, I tried soooo many things. I guess I'm asking for some good tutorials for this situation? I could do with anything on basics etc. I want to draw something for my fiance for Valentines day but this block is crazy hard to get over.

Thanks so much for the help!

Try tracing or using a reference. Depending on what you want to draw, lets say lions, find a stock picture of a lion you like and trace it.

Once you've traced the lines, embellish them, change them around, add accessories and make it more your own work.
This helped me when I thought I couldn't draw at all and struggled with poses and finding my own style.
Eventually you know what to draw so you can ween yourself off tracing and just use references or draw from your own mind. Give it a try.

Hm... maybe try drawing simple things, just to get you back into the feel of it? Don't worry about doing a full drawing. Just try a messy sketch. It could even just be shapes, or a simple pose, animal or human, or even something like a flower or something made-up. Don't try to make the perfect drawing right away, you'll just frustrate yourself. Just try something simple, just a sketch. Don't try anything too hard right away either, you'll loose motivation quicker. Hope that helped!

I might not be able to help much, listening to new music and looking at inspiration usually helps me! But I went through a traumatic event last Summer that also caused me to stop drawing, I'm still in a bit of an art rut too, but here are some things that helped me!

1. Doing something completely new, whether it be playing with a new style, drawing things you've never drawn before, or just going crazy with the aesthetic/colour palette of the drawing!

2. Not trying to push yourself to finishing a drawing. You don't have to start out by making full on pieces! A lot of artists do "warm-ups" before working on a proper piece, and these can just be silly sketches or a roughly coloured image!

3. Knowing that major art block doesn't go away instantly. When you have it big time, you just have to stay determined! Make yourself draw, whether it be once a day, once every few days, or once a week! And when you lose inspiration, don't put down your pen and call it a day, keep going even when you don't feel like it! Because if you make yourself do it, you might come out with a pretty nice sketch, which will inspire you to line it, which will inspire you to colour it, then maybe even finish it!

4. Draw with others. Whether you're watching an art stream while drawing, or drawing with a friend over Skype, having someone else work while you're working can really help keep up the motivation!

Never give up! I hope you get your mojo back <3

I'm going through the same thing. I'm trying to do some cute things for Valentine's Day, but I'm having issues with it.

Yet oddly when I'm watching a hockey game, I can draw and not have issues. Or listen to some of my favorite songs. Writing, not so much. I'm struggling with that too. But I get inspiration from weird things like hockey or music. Or other sports if I'm interested in them.
