Hello all,

One of the things I'm trying to do is breed lions with lots of markings.
As I love to breed for color. So preferably 5+ markings. So why is it when I breed two lions that both have a fair amount of marks the cubs inherit very little markings.
Take my king for example. He has 13 markings, most my lionesses have anywhere from 4-7 markings. But the cubs sometimes have as little as 1-2. Its the same with studs. It doesn't always happen but it happens often enough. Why is this and there is anything I can do to improve?

Hello!
I'd like to post a quick clarification on the passing of marking opacities to cubs!

Cub's marking opacities are inherited from their parents' - It may fluctuate between +/- 20% of their parent's opacities.
Marking opacities do not have effect on the frequency of passing those markings - as said above, only cub's marking opacity percentages are somehow affected, yet not the passing of the marking overall.
Hope it clears it up!

The only thing you can do to "improve" the chances of a marking to pass is to use an Ochre Gnawrock. They force a certain marking to pass to all offspring in the litter, but they're fairly pricey as a once a year event item, and can only be used one per lion.

Otherwise markings have a 75% chance to pass if the two lions have the same marking in the same slot. Markings have a 50% chance to pass if there are two different markings in the same slot - you'll get 25% mom's markings, 25% dad's markings, and 50% nothing. Your particular marking pass rate may vary, of course.

Opacity, from asking the Admin team once, has zero effect on markings passing. It is not supposed to have any effect on marking's passing. If you suspect it might, do some roll tests! Post it on the (probably bug) forums.

I've noticed Opacities also impact the chances of passing aswell, judging by my own Kings cubs his 100% Markings pass more frequently than his lower Opacity markings so in relation to your curiosity of if there's anything you can do, aside from dropping alot of GB on a Gnawrock you could try upping the opacity of the markings you want to try passing more.

*My King has 20 Marks that vary from 19% - 100% and most of his cubs inherit 6-8 of them not including the hidden although I still do get cubs with 2-4 markings from time to time, usually the markings are mostly the higher opacity so that is a cheaper alternative option if you want to test it out.

As an example this cub was born today from an NCL and Inherited the bulk of Vaileans higher Opacity markings: Cub
