I was wondering today whether or not the opacity of markings has anything to do with their pass rate. Are normal marking (not rosettes) less likely to pass when their parent has a low opacity (say, 15%) than if it was closer to 100%?

I've noticed that when I breed, the cubs tend to not get the markings that have a low opacity, but I wanted to know whether or not this is a coincidence.

Opacity does not have anything to do with pass rate. It's randomly generated.

As far as inheriting goes, it only matters if the parent has the mark. The opacity doesn't affect the cub's chances to get it at all.

So likely, it's just a coincidence.

As far as I understand, a particular marking of a parent has a 1/4 of passing - this only counts for regular markings, not Rosettes or Inverted Rosettes -, because the first thing to roll for a marking slot is which parent has the chance to pass their marking, and then it rolls again to see if it passes or not, no matter if the parent has an actual marking in that slot or not. The opacity is usually inherited in the aproximate values the parent has it, but opacity has nothing to do with the actual chances of the marking being inherited.

in general:

markings have a 75% chance to pass if the two lions have the
same marking in the same slot. Markings have a 50% chance to
pass if there are two different markings in the same slot -
you'll get 25% mom's markings, 25% dad's markings, and
50% nothing.
Your particular marking pass rate may vary, of course.
(i managed to breed a cub with a special base and no markings at all O.O)

so opacity has no effect on passing the markings.
