For any of those karma lovers wanting a little easier way to boost or lower their karma without having to either claim lioness or fight a lioness every explore. Or the people who want to lower or boost their karma without having to kill their lions or send them to reserve because it takes up energy.

Why not have the option to either give mercy or kill your enemy after defeating them?

It wouldn't be much of a boost or lower-er, likely the same as killing or sending your lions to the reserve.

Maybe it will cost extra energy, maybe it wont.
