Carines Genetics and Records

Please DO NOT POST. The main thread is located here for all your posting and information needs.

Breeding and Genetics Explained

So you want to breed your Carine? Here are some things to keep in mind:
-Breeding between 6am and 8am Lioden time, and between 6pm and 8pm Lioden time, gives chance at special time-specific kits!
-You will need a Baboo leaf to breed your Carines. You can get these in the shop, or through explore!
-Female Carines have a five day cool down after each breed. Items will be implemented in the future to skip this.
-As more Carines come out, more genetics will be added to this list.
-A lethal born Carine will not die, but it will not be usable for breeding, exploring, or any other Carine functions. Think of it as a frozen lethal cub on Lioden. It’s a trophy.

Breeding Styles:
There are two styles of breeding: Regular /and/ Chimera and Risk.

Regular breeding does not carry the chance of Lethal Births (for example, with the Subgroup Override Gene). However, you will also be unable to breed a Chimera or other perks of risk breeding. You are guaranteed a functional Carine out of this breeding.

Chimera and Risk breeding allows the possibility of both Lethal and Chimera births. You will get a Carine out of this breeding, but it may not be functional. You will not be refunded for Lethal Births. Sections in dark red indicate that they are achievable only through this type of breeding.

Please be sure to state which style you would like to use when requesting a breeding!

Genetic Code:
Key: Trait (Allele)

It all starts with Subgroups. Each mineral belongs to a subgroup, which can come into play later. They are listed here in order of dominance.

Silicate Subgroup (A)
Native Element Subroup (B)

Within the subgroups are the different mineral types. Again, they are listed here in order of dominance.

Silicate Subgroup-
Rose Quartz (Q1)
Clear Quartz (Q2)
Smoky Quartz (Q3)
Garnet (G)

Native Element Subgroup-
Gold (U)

Usually, only one mineral is present on a Carine. In some cases, the Co-Dominant Mineral Gene may allow two minerals in the same subgroup to be present at the same time.

No Co-Dom (DD or Dd)
Co-Dom (dd)

There is also a gene that would make it theoretically possible for minerals of different subgroups to both be present. This Subgroup Override Gene usually results in a miscarriage if paired with the Co-Dom Mineral Gene. In the rare case that twins would be born, though, it will instead create a chimera. A chimera is the fusion of two Carines. They are born very powerful, but will become sterile after three breedings. This gene is only active if using Chimera and Risk style breeding. Regular breedings will only result in XX or Xx.

No Override (XX or Xx)
Override (xx)

Mineral growth type is also determined by genetics. If the Feature/Mundane Gene (tt) is present, but the Feature Gene (ff) is not, the Carine will have no growth, and will be mundane. By default, if the Carine has both (tt) and (ff), they will have regular feature growth. However, if they have the In-Pelt Gene(nn) or Ore Gene (oo), those will override it, in that order. These genes are listed, again, in order of dominance.

Typical (TT or Tt)
Feature/Mundane (tt)
No Feature (FF or Ff)
Feature (ff)
No In-Pelt (NN or Nn)
In-Pelt (nn)
No Ore (OO or Oo)
Ore (oo)

How many places a mineral grows on a Carine is generally determined by dispersal percentage. This is calculated by the average of two the two parents' percentage, plus or minus up to five, based on a number roll of 0-10. (Dice roll 0 = minus five, 1 = minus four, 2 = minus three, 3 = minus two, 4 = minus one, 5 = no change, 6 = plus one, 7 = plus two, 8 = plus three, 9 = plus four, 10 = plus 5.) Three Growth Places will only be achievable through Chimera and Risk Breeding.

Genetic Mundane (0%)
One Growth Place (1% to 65%)
Two Growth Places (66% to 80%)
Three Growth Places (81% to 99%)
Lethal (100%)

The place of growth is different depending on the type of growth involved, but all Carines carry genetics for each type, regardless of if it shows. The first place listed will show if one growth place is determined (by dispersal percentage). The first and second will show for two growth places, and all three will show for three growth places.

Typical/Ore Growth-
Head / Neck / Shoulders (H)
Rump / Leg / Paws (R)
Chest / Belly / Tail (C)

Feature Growth-
Eyes-Blind / Nose-Breathes Out Mouth / Ears-Deaf (E)
Claws / Teeth / Stomach-Lethal Born (L)
Surge / Lungs-Lethal Born / Heart-Lethal Born (S)

In-Pelt-
Not affected by dispersal percentage.
Neck (KK or Kk)
Everywhere But Neck (kk)
