I think that chat spam should be determined by the length of time between two messages, and not the amount of messages between them. With the new chat system there are 100 messages displayed at a time, and for people in different time zones (or people who stay up late like I do) that means you are allowed to post just one message to the sales chat every TWO hours! Implementing a ten minute waiting period between identical messages would improve the chat situation, which is only going to get slower if we aren't allowed to post anything. Ten minutes between messages gives plenty of time for other people to post their own ads, and still prevents people from having their ads pushed off of the screen. I imagine it would also be more manageable for the mods, too, since chat messages have timestamps. |

This would work for sales channel, but in regards to RP & Art Sales channel, 10 minutes is not enough time to prevent spam.  0 players like this post! Like? |

agreed, i only ever have sales open so that was my biggest concern. i do think that a time limit would be much more cut and dry though, even if 10 minutes isn't right for other advertising channels. It's a bit rough having to scan through 100 messages to check that your ad hasn't been repeated, especially if it takes several hours for your message to be visible at the top of the channel again. 0 players like this post! Offt yeah I totally agree, I personally feel it's a bit rough as it is now. I know one of the other Mods has a suggestion about cutting advertising channels down to 25. Else a posting every X amount of posts is another I've seen. 0 players like this post! Like? |

i had no idea you could limit the amount of messages visible in a channel, that would be awesome too. i think the 100 message limit works really well for the regular chat, i remember conversations being a bit hard to follow because they would disappear pretty fast, but i also miss the days when at the height of user activity you could post every 4 minutes to sales without a problem. 0 players like this post! I just wanted to say that timers can be tricky, as in the mornings chat is very slow (even Sales), and a set timer would not really work well - 10 minutes means you can post even 4-6 same ads or more in a single chat scroll. That could be spammy, and I personally don't see it working too well. I think trimming down the max message limit back to 25 as old side chat had would make things more fair and not too harsh at the same time, but it's been suggested somewhere else already. ^^ 0 players like this post! @Roscharch My only problem with it is that if your message reaches the lower part of chat you have to assume that someone will be willing to read 50+ ads if they want the chance to read whatever you’ve posted, which most people aren’t willing to do. I said this earlier but i miss the days when you could have your message displayed at the top about every five minutes, i sold a lot more that way. @Shad i agree! again i had no idea you could cut back messages like that. i would personally prefer the time limit, but i would also love to have the message limit be set back to 25 for the sales chat if that would work better. 0 players like this post!
