Ah, I'm sure this will go to help soon. To make a lioness protect a cub, go to her info, and in the update description you will see a roll setter, the options are "none" "hunter" "broodmother". set a lioness to broodmother. She wont be able to hunt, but she'll now get a milkbottle by her name in your den, and will have a new dropdown on her page where you can choose up to 5 cubs to protect (six if she is nurturing - good personality).

To set a lioness as your den icon, scroll to the bottom when you are in that den (where you can see the empty den mascot) there will be a slot to change the dens name, a description box, and between the two a dropdown to select a lioness to make the mascot. It can only be a lioness from within that den.
