We encourage people, whether they're a part of the clan or not, to participate on the thread. We don't bite, and this will just be a common chatter place with some updates every now and then :) 0 players like this post! Like? |

Hi. I'm wondering if anyone has done this before or can give me some advice on claw cleaning. So I shadow at a local vet clinic and today there was a cat with a fully ingrown claw. This was removed and I was allowed to take the claw home with me. It has spiraling shell shape and I was wondering if anyone knew a way on how to clean both the outside and the inner claw area? I have been looking for a way to do this, but I'm really struggling to find a way to do this that is gentle and won't break the claw (I think it could be and looks like it is very fragile). Pictures of it can be found here: https://www.deviantart.com/eaneul/gallery/?catpath=scraps If it's alright for me to ask for advice here? 0 players like this post! Like? @eaneul Hello! I'd be happy to help~ Looking at it I think the best choice of action for cleaning would be to soak it in hydrogen peroxide [the 3% stuff you can get at like walmart and such] for a few hours. It's a very gentle method that would kill any bacteria on it and make it look cleaner! I've used hydrogen peroxide on mouse skulls and dropped kitten/puppy teeth before with no issues at all. :] I hope that helps! 0 players like this post! Like? |

Thank you. :) I have some peroxide tucked away in my bathroom and will give that a try for tonight. Will this shake loose some of the inner gunk as well or will I need to use something else to clean that out? 0 players like this post! Like? Edited on 27/02/20 @ 19:15:04 by eaneul (#110976) |

You're welcome! And yeah it should! The bubbling of the peroxide will bubble out any icky stuff tucked away in it. 0 players like this post! Like? |

Thank you for the help. I recently starting picking up an interest in animal bio products collections, taxidermy and skinning and tanning though I haven't tried out the last two and I enjoy learning about this and seeing how to do this. :) 0 players like this post! Like? |

For anybody interested, how did you get involved or interested in vulture culture? How long have you been familiar and embracing it? 0 players like this post! Like? |

I have always had some interest, but I really started getting interested in things last year after my dogs killed a groundhog in the backyard. I stuck it under a laundry basket outside and I allowed it to decompose and months later, cleaning my first set of bones. Another time that led me down the same way was when I cleaned a pair of cat jaw bones that I found and created a simple necklace out of one of them. 0 players like this post! Like? |

Hey!! Baby vulture here really, cos I don't yet own and bones or anything cool, though I'm always on the look out. I do, however, have a huge collection of feathers, including a big ol eagle feather I stumbled upon at a festival. Good to see a vulture culture community on lioden tho! To anyone reading, I hope you're having a wonderful day <3 0 players like this post! Like? |
