So basically, I want lion pompadours, but I think the exact physics of that and how stylistic it would have to be clash to much with the more grounded look of Lioden manes. Obviously this is anything but high priority, I just think it would be a real cool, fun feature to have.

Function
The way hair styles would work is that the lion's current mane would be invisible, so that the hair style can stand in it's place without looking awkward. Hair styles would come in a much more limited range of colors, offering light, medium, dark, and vibrant options to cover the four base groups. So minimum four colors, but there's plenty of room to expand, but I think it's a good starting place and covers the generals. It would have no function outside of decoration, and does not affect breeding. mutations that change the base would either not be able to use styles, or there would be special ones. There could also be fun flavor texts implemented later on.

Suggestions
Khajiit a wandering vendor type npc like flood pit, could use water items so there'd be more use for them. moved from mane to decoration suggestion.

Reasoning
The hair styles I'm suggesting are too extreme looking to be regular manes, and they're so dramatic and big that I think they go over the limit for how much of the body decor can cover + would look awkward with the lions existing mane underneath.

Implementation
While applicators are great, I think it'd be more fun if it were introduced alongside a new npc; namely a handlebar mustache sporting patas monkey who's befriended a local colony of sociable weaver birds who in exchange for some tasty beetles are happy to assist in taming your mane. There could some static options, as well as rotating one's dependent on certain conditions ie a special event. I've had this tab up for an hour so I drew a little monkey below

Mane Ideas
I tried to get a decent range of kind of far out looks to demonstrate potential styles, some of them are a bit more natural than others, and if need be I'll move them into a regular mane suggestion post. The base lion head is traced from the standard male.

Open the image in a new tab for full size, and click it to be taken to my stash where I have all the individual mane images.

I'm sorry, but no support. I imagine these would require the same amount of work as regular mane shapes, and I'd prefer to have new manes shapes that can actually pass to this - it'd be eye lenses all over again :'D

They would still be an entirely new mane, but there wouldn't be the 100+ bases with the 1000+ markings, so they'd be significantly easier to produce. Once the coding is implemented, it'd be on the same level as making a decor item that comes in a couple different colors.

EDIT: I'd also like to point out there are decors that are probably way more work and come in a variety of colors ie flirting lioness

It'd still be disappointing for them to not be able to pass onto offspring. There are only 23 manes shapes currently, and it may not seem a lot, but that's only the shape of the mane, because then there are a lot of colors for them. See where I'm going? It's true it's not a new marking that has to be adapted to all stages, but it still requires work to be done and, as I explained previously, I'd prefer for that work to be put into something that would make the game more enjoyable and not possibly frustrating.

They wouldn't be like colored lens where they look neat but produce duds, it's entirely an aesthetic thing that doesn't effect the breeding, and I figure people would complain if they were made to be real manes as they go against the existing style. I think as far as effort versus reward, again it's like xy or one of the other artists working on a new decor, and decor generally it's complained about being time consuming and getting in the way of other projects (at least not that I've seen), it's low effort low reward whereas a whole new legitimate mane is high effort and high reward, it's not really detracting from anything.

Thing is, you're not suggesting a decor - and keep in mind the "mane" decors aren't recolored to fit every mane color, but have a variety of colors that you can pick from -, you're suggesting whole manes, manes that would require the effort of such, but would not be passable onto offspring. If you were to tell me to pick between a mane that can pass versus a mane that cannot, and both options take the same time, I'll pick the one that can pass in a heartbeat.

I agree with Berenos here. This would require a lot of work, which would include:
- adjusting decors for the manes (which means drawing the decor from scratch - at the moment there are 2009 decors in game, not counting custom)
- coloring the manes in every mane color in game - 143 mane colors + also doing all the mane markings for those

The artists won't say it, but for the most part - they are already swarmed with work and this sounds, just like the colored lenses, as something completely unneeded. I'd rather see your suggestion as decor in fixed colors, maybe with more recolors added each year, but definitely not as a cosmetic change item.

I think you might've misunderstood, I'm not suggesting they include all the colors, I said they only have a few (about four) color options and no markings, so there's not all the time spent going through ever color and marking like with a regular mane.

So basically what you are suggesting is a decor, if they are to have limited colors and no markings. Hence there is no reason for them to pass/fail into something else.
Just suggest them as decor and not something that would require far more work, because trust me - if people would want to have them as a mane shape and not decor - they will want more colors and the markings too.

I didn't know if this would qualify as a decor because there would have to be coding implemented to make their base mane invisible while wearing it, and it takes up more than the allotted percentage of total "lion space" allowed for custom decors (and I don't know how closely the staff sticks to that)

tbh I think they would find a way to make it cover/disable the male mane for this particular decor in use and it would take a bit less work than making a whole new applicator instead of a decor. Basically they could try to make it that when this decor is in use the mane base, color and marking layers are disabled. I'm not too well versed in coding, but it might be easier than needing to make and code an app plus the passing and stuff.

Also, with the idea of the NPC, you could adjust it to be, let's say, a wandering vendor, a bit like with Flood Pit, who will let you look through his items for a certain fee. Maybe have more use for water items outside of August and just decor crafting/being food for beetles. A monkey that went from place to place, comes here in dry season and is just resting there and really thirsty ;)

Rad, okay I moved it to decor suggestions!

That would actually work really well, I did a quick look over of sociable weavers and they won't breed during dry seasons/need sufficient water so if the npc came during the dry season it'd be like an in game reason for why the birds are willing to work/why they need the water.

I'm glad you like the idea :D I hope it will make a nice decor and a really nice NPC if it ends up implemented.
