Long ago, a sickness swept across the Nacaean Isles. It was unstoppable, deadly, but most of all, evil. Noginth, a dark hive mind that controlled this illness, murdered hundreds of creatures in those days, but they found no rest. After death, the infected rose again to enslave the islands, all becoming servants of the shadow.
When it seemed that all hope was lost, a single wolf defied Noginth. Claiming to have been created by the Ancients to stop this plague, the wolf fought back.
He failed. After being severely injured, he was dragged away by his followers, and never seen again. For another year, Noginth ruled. The living hid, while the dead walked the streets, forever a part of Noginth. Darkness had prevailed, and despair racked even the most stout-hearted. The islands began to collapse and the fifth island sank into the sea.

However, in a small corner of the land, in Evelo Forest, a tree arose. The Great Tree spread light to everything nearby it, and its roots reached to the other islands, holding them up despite Noginth's efforts. The hive mind was enraged, sending hordes of dead to cut down this threat.
To the dismay of the dark creatures the ground in the forest burned them, but they ignored it until they were killed by the drive that had made them unstoppable previously.
Noginth was sealed away, though some knew this would not last. An old turtle named Krosma searched throughout the land and took seven children to raise in the forest. To the shock of the Nacaea, these children manifested powers. Occasionally, more children would be born with these powers, but the seven chosen by Krosma were the most powerful and they became the Guardians of the Great Tree.

Now, the old Guardians have died off in various ways. A new order of Guardians has been formed, but they are constantly butting heads with each other, arguing, and refusing to work with each other. Krosma, now called the Ancient, is attempting to bring them together, before darkness tears them apart.
