So from my understanding the Dorsal boost is connected to the account not the king after completing the breeding challenge and accepting it before May 31st. I have a question regarding the boost and I guess also the breeding? If I were to change my main male's mane who is currently a dreamboat male into a crested mane. Completed the challenge and get the boost. Could I then retire my main male early and king my Primal Submale while also keeping my submale's appearance and mutation? Would my Primal Submale need to also be a crested mane for the boost to work or could he just keep his hellraiser mane??

Reason I'm asking is I'm stuck because I love the looks of my Primal Male and I'm not a fan of the looks of my current Main king, but what has me on the fence is my current main male is a dreamboat and replacing him means I lose that and the ability to get NCL who are in heat. After completing the challenge I don't really care about losing the dreamboat and starting over. I just want to know if I can complete the challenge with my main male, replace him with my primal without having to change my primal's mane, and using my primal for the Dorsal boost.

im not entirely sure i understand, but just to quickly clarify the previous comment— people using studs for the dorsal mutation are using the stud's dorsal boost, not their own. you can only apply your dorsal boost to your own king, but you can accept a stud request from another player and use the boost in that breeding, thereby giving the other player your dorsal mutie.
i would think that the boost would be attached to your account, not your king, so i would say you're almost definitely safe to do what you plan to. however, I'm not 100% certain, and it's a good idea to try to modbox it if no mods/admins respond to this post!

I thought that dorsal fur works a bit like imperial mane - the cub must have certain mane (royal, crested) to have a mutation - not that the mutation changes the mane. Now I'm confused xd

When you use the boost and it applies the mutation to one of the cubs, it automatically changes that cub's mane to crested. When you breed one of those dorsals, they roll to pass the mutation onto one of their cubs. If the roll works and the mutation is passed, whatever the mane would have been is automatically changed to Crested. So the mutation kind of changes the mane, as in, you can breed to a non-crested stud with a dorsal lioness and still produce a dorsal, but it basically just means that if you get a dorsal, it has to inherit the mother's mane shape (crested). Of course, it works the other way too, if the stud is dorsal and the lioness is not and a cub is dorsal, the cub automatically inherits the father's mane shape. Or at least, that's an easier way to look at it. In game mechanics, the dorsal mutation is what determines the mane shape

The dorsal fur boost changes the mane of the cub it rolls on to Crested as it's guaranteed. A lot of people used studs for the challenge, and not their king.

If by chance it didn't work, it would be bugged and a bug board would get an admin to fix it for ya and put it on a cub. c:
