I think I've finally gotten a handle on bases and markings. Now I find out there is a whole marking rarity thing going on here. I was just wondering how many lions have to have a marking in a particular slot for it to be considered rare?

I just looked at a marking that I had never seen before. It said that 0 Kings have the mark in that slot. However, there are currently 100 Pride lions with it in that slot. Would this be a rare mark? I am hoping some Lioden veterans might help me out with this. Thanks :)

It would be :) I think if there's 0-2 kings and less then 100, maybe 150 lions at most (?) it's considered rare. Though I'm not sure about the numbers.

But the "rarity" is important only in breed only marks (Tier 2 + marks or from July like leonid, skyward). Applicable ones aren't rare or not because you can apply them to specific slot whenever you want.

Well the reason I asked is because I found an NCL with the Dhahabi base that also has Marigold Undercoat in slot 6. I have never seen this marking so I thought - hey I'll look this up. Then, I thought well this is great, but well these numbers don't really mean much without a baseline.

Marigold Undercoat is an NCL-special marking, it can be found on claimed NCLs by any king who is at Impressive or above impression level. Specific slots in that case dont matter much, and doesnt make it rare nor worth a lot; all NCL special markings are low in demand, even though you cant apply them the NCLs with them can be found at any time, and specific slots dont really add them much value! The reason why there's none on kings is also that they're not very wanted; not many people are interested in breeding them onto their heirs, as they're commonly found on NCLs in explore.

Oh ok. Thanks. Is there a guide somewhere that says what marks are worth something and what ones aren't? I've been struggling with lion sale prices so it's easy for us newer players to be confused by something that is so worthless no one breeds for it and something that is genuinely rare and valuable.

It's complicated. You'll learn but the best way to start is to assume that anything from Tier 2 (so from raffle lionesses, plus marks like Leonid even though it's different Tier) is worth more. It also depends on a Lion. Is it clean or not? What base, eyes, mane he has? Is it mutated?

As for "easy money" I recommend looking for so called "chased lionesses". They usually sell pretty good. Especially if they have special/rare base, breed only eyes or Tier 2 markings.

You should look through TC but also through forum. You will notice that there are traits that are more desirable ... just because. There are few rules (like what I said here) but also sometimes something is worth more because people just generally like it.
