Newbie here! To what kind of stud do I need to breed her to to get dark/black colored cubs?

I am also so confused with the kinging/heir system! So, is it possible to keep my current king as the king but 'heir' another male lion (felis primal) mainly just to change the current king into a felis primal?

Or is that only possible after my current king is ready to retire (without any payments)? Does that still change the then retired king into a felis? And does kinging another lion delete all my current lionesses/cubs/lions? If they all are put into the dynasty lair are they still able to breed?

You can't guarantee particular colour cubs necessarily, especially if one parent is in another base group - for instance that lioness is cream, so her cubs will always be 50% likely to have a cream group base. That said, any king in the black base group - particularly the dark shaded bases - will generally be your best bet for darker cubs. The official wiki has a page with tons of info on how base genetics work (link), including further down that page complete charts of which bases are in which exact group and even which shade/gradient category.

There's also the Base Outcome Viewer section on that page too, where you can input 2 parents' base colours and see all the possible bases their cubs could be, which is great if you're still getting familiar with genetics :)

The wiki explains a bit about retiring kings and appearance/mutation replacing here. Any heir you have on standby is simply a submale in your pride and has no effect on your existing king until you retire him, and submales cannot breed or anything either. Whether you wait until a king is 15 to retire for free you or pay to retire early, the outcome is the same either way - only the cost differs. So if you want to turn your king into a Felis the only way is to buy a Felis male and retire your current king, using the Felis male as the new king.

Retiring has no effect on the rest of your pride, all your lionesses and cubs remain, none or deleted or killed or anything like that.

Lions in your dynasty (where they're stored after retiring, or dying of old age) cannot be bred or anything else - retiring is basically the equivalent of death on LD.
