Every new lion, from rolled kings to specially bred stat-monsters, start their lives from the humble beginnings of level 1 (Exp 0). Each lion has their own individual level, and with no level cap the only limiting factors to a lion's level are their own lifespan and how much grind you're willing to do!
For kings, higher levels grant access to new areas in explore. This allows you to find new encounters with different rewards and drops! When you level up your king, you gain stats equal to your new level times two, as well as 100% energy. You can level up any time and continue to gain exp, so it's reccomended that you fully expend your energy before leveling up to fully make use of the rewards!
There is currently no benefit to having a higher level submale, and levels are wiped if a submale becomes king, returning him to level zero.
Higher level lionesses make better hunters, so it's good to keep at least one experienced lioness in a hunting party when using new hunters.

To level up, you must reach the Exp requirements for your lion's current level.
For kings, there are multiple ways to earn exp through gameplay!
* As rewards for various event and year round explore encounters
* Battling NPCs in explore (Boosted by Arrogant and Vicious personalities)
* Completing quests from the snake, gorilla enclave and lone lioness
* Sparring with a submale
* Completing event quests and stories
* Sending lions to the celestial gateway during July
* Chasing lionesses while king has the "Humble" personality
For submales, there is no gameplay mechanic to earn experience
For lionesses, exp can be gained through each hunt they participate in as a hunter or at each rollover as a broodmother.
