let's start: what is down syndrome? Down syndrome is a condition in which a person has an extra chromosome. Chromosomes are small “packages” of genes in the body. They determine how a baby’s body forms and functions as it grows during pregnancy and after birth. Typically, a baby is born with 46 chromosomes. Babies with Down syndrome have an extra copy of one of these chromosomes, chromosome 21. A medical term for having an extra copy of a chromosome is ‘trisomy.’ Down syndrome is also referred to as Trisomy 21. This extra copy changes how the baby’s body and brain develop, which can cause both mental and physical challenges for the baby. Some common physical features of Down syndrome include: A flattened face, especially the bridge of the nose Almond-shaped eyes that slant up A short neck Small ears A tongue that tends to stick out of the mouth Tiny white spots on the iris (colored part) of the eye Small hands and feet A single line across the palm of the hand (palmar crease) Small pinky fingers that sometimes curve toward the thumb Poor muscle tone or loose joints Shorter in height as children and adults for some reference, here's a cat with down syndrome Ideas on how it could affect the lion- -in cub training, the could be a bit aloof, and have trouble with focusing on training "(Cub) tried to focus but fell, giggling as they flopped on their belly" -if brought on hunts, they could be described to "chase butterflies instead" and bring home butterflies instead of prey only some ideas <3 would be a really cool mutation! If you don't support, please comment why, don't just do it with no explanation |

This.... Feels extremely insensitive in general, but one thing sticks out to me as absolutely.... gross. "when breeding, they could be aloof to what your trying to do and take it as a game "(lioness) had trouble understanding what you tried to do, but after a while stuck her rump in your face, breeding was (successful or unsuccessful)" That's just straight up not okay. Assault is a real problem for people with mental disabilities and that's just.... super insensitive and disgusting. Also just a note, since I know 100% realism isn't necessary with mutations in this game, but just so you know the picture you have attached isn't a cat with down syndrome because cats physically cannot have down syndrome https://allaboutcats.com/down-syndrome-in-cats 0 players like this post! it's a lioness, and well, it's not what I'm trying to imply. I studied this deeply, plus they already have dwarfism 0 players like this post! Like? |

@#125490 I thought it might be a bit more inclusive, since most of their real life human special mutations are lethals, i thought this could be a non-lethal inclusive mutation <3 0 players like this post! Like? |

I don't support, but I do appreciate you trying to explain it! <:) And finding examples in actual animals. I think, to me it's too close to real humans and a very personal human condition. 0 players like this post! Like? |

This seems extremely insensitive to me, and as Sam (Cream Base G1 King) (#230085) pointed out, both the cat in your example as well as actual lions are physically incapable of having Down syndrome. They only have 19 pairs of chromosomes, therefore it is literally impossible for them to have trisomy 21 because their species doesn't have a 21st pair in the first place. 0 players like this post! Big no. This is pretty insensitive and inappropriate. Maybe hydrocephalus - which does occur in humans and animals - because it does look similar to the kitten picture. But not down syndrome. Just... no. 0 players like this post! Like? |
