the most straightforward way is to hunt every 30 minutes, and sell the meat on the trading post :-) you can also play the flash games and sell items you win on branch. a lot of your explore items can be sold too! search it on branch to figure out price for 1 item, or trading post to figure out good prices for bulk lots of explore items

as you learn more about the site and figure out what kind of traits you like breeding, you can make some money from breeding lions with valued traits like special bases or mutations, or on stud fees for your king

some of the event shops also have items that are very profitable to sell, especially if you wait a few months (the market gets flooded after an event so prices tank). this month, making heart shells by exploring and by doing the aphrosia event thing, and then buying buffalo scrotums (and waiting a few months to sell them), is really profitable. breeding items are often the most profitable thing in event shops. for events without breeding items in the shop, applicators sell ok too. all event shop items will be worth more "out of season", a while after the shop closes. some decors will sell well, but it's harder to find a buyer than for breeding items or apps

also, one thing i didnt realize when i first started playing: lots of really cute cubs are SUPER cheap!! people are trying to get very rare outcomes like mutants, special bases, etc, so they breed way more common cubs than there's any demand for. some stuff is def out of a new player's price range, but if you just search lions on trades (you can put a maximum price) with the marking colors, eyes, or whatever that you like, there's a decent chance you'll be able to find really neat cubs you like for super cheap :-)
