Items like Honeycomb, Egg yolks, and some amusement items can increase stats. Your best bet is to start feeding your king these stat enhancing items or buy a lion with high stats!

Alternatively, you could always stat train cubs and adols (cub training and patrolling/hunting as adols) to increase their stats as well. You could also train a submale for this exact purpose.

Hey WitchyRen! I'm a hardcore stat breeder, on my fourth stat king. My last one was all over the LBs (but he retired this morning, RIP Asterus) and ended at over 10,500 stats. His cubs were around 1300 stats at the end of his life, and he even made some 2000 stat cubs with my hunters, who themselves have over 5000 stats.

I have a clan that you can join, called Super Smash Stats, and we have a guide on how to raise stats that I can send you if you join. It's about 20 pages and very detailed - it will give you all the info you need on stats on LD.

But long story short, patrolling a submale 10+ times a day his whole life until 14 years 11 months, and then kinging him is the best way to get a stat king to breed higher stat cubs. Like lime said, the cubs only get a small percentage of the parent's total stats. I've done some calculations on that, and found the stats the cubs inherit varies based on the parent's total stats, starting from 22% for low stat parents (around 500 total between mom and dad) and going up to 12.5% for higher statted parents (around 6000 and higher). I also have a calculator for this that I have created (and several other things relating to stats) that I would be happy to share if you would like them.

The best way to breed for stats is to breed to a super high stat stud on the market! (Or stat a submale yourself)--the general rule of thumb for calculating how many stats a cub'll have seems to be:
(mom's stats + dad's stats) x .12 = cub's stats (give or take 100ish)
So if you take a G1 leaderboard's king (phlegethon, for reference), and breed a regular NCL to him, the cubs'll generally have 1.4k-1.5k stats.
But if you take the same king and breed a statted girl to him (around 3000-5000k, generally what NCLs can be statted up to by hunting, your cubs'll be anywhere from 1.5-2k in stats C:

I managed to get my old king up to 4.8k in stats, and when he bred to NCLs, the cubs were generally 550-690 in stats
